A few weeks back - I saw a blurb on the website saying that the latest XY 32bit version (at that time) was the "last" and is heading for the sunset and a "new" 64 bit version will take over in just a few days.
That was several weeks ago. Now I see another 32 bit version is available:
And stil no (easy) sign of a transition to this "new" 64 bit version.
What is the correct way to make the move from 32 bit to 64 bit - AND is the 64 bit version actually stable - or is it just another shaky dev version that will need some long TLC to become a daily driver?
The forum here is filled with 64 bit bug reports etc and with no real transition assistance (that I can find) - what is the best play at this time? Stick with the 32 bit version or jump to 64?
And if I jump - will the upgrade correctly replace the 32 bit version - settings and all?
Appreciate any updates on this process.
VP

Re: Can someone set me straight on the latest releases?
hi ! i would bet a few of the x64 users will jump in here and help you out, it's actually pretty easy to upgrade if you are interested.
for me, i am staying on the non-TB version for the foreseeable future. i still have no plans on moving to the x64 version as i don't have any problems with the x86 version. my plan is to stay put and let the x64 get all kinds of fixes, tweaks, tested out, etc. before i re-evaluate the a possible move.
good luck !

I suppose Don is still waiting for some final issues with twinBASIC to be fixed before he integrates migration from 32bit to 64bit into the update routine.
For me the 64bit version is definitely stable enough for usage, but I suppose that depends of how extreme you are using XY features.
I consider myself an advanced user... definitely not in league with highend and the other guys.

You can just pick the latest 64bit download and install it separately or in place of your current 32bit installation. XY will pick 64bit versions for updates once switched.Vocalpoint wrote: ↑13 Aug 2025 14:48 What is the correct way to make the move from 32 bit to 64 bit - AND is the 64 bit version actually stable - or is it just another shaky dev version that will need some long TLC to become a daily driver?
As long as Don is still keeping the 32bit version up-to-date, it's basically a question of choice. You can stick with the 32bit version or switch to 64bit.Vocalpoint wrote: ↑13 Aug 2025 14:48 The forum here is filled with 64 bit bug reports etc and with no real transition assistance (that I can find) - what is the best play at this time? Absolutely. XY64 is supposed to be on par with the 32bit version and your configs should be transferred if you just replace the old version with the new one.Vocalpoint wrote: ↑13 Aug 2025 14:48 And if I jump - will the upgrade correctly replace the 32 bit version - settings and all?

Fair enough. I think I will stay with what I have until such time that I see a reason to switch.
I use XY VERY heavily here and one thing I do not need is instability.
Will keep an eye on the forums for the next few months.

That's definitely a valid choice.Vocalpoint wrote: ↑13 Aug 2025 20:41 Fair enough. I think I will stay with what I have until such time that I see a reason to switch.
Well... I can't say I see any instability in XY64 right now. Not a single crash since I switched...Vocalpoint wrote: ↑13 Aug 2025 20:41 I use XY VERY heavily here and one thing I do not need is instability.
But, if you're worried: Why not use both next to each other?
If nothing else, you can install the XY64 edition as portable version in a separate folder and give it a try... If there's some feature not working as you expect it, you can easily switch back to the 32bit edition and file a bug report.
You should definitely do that.

As of (just) now, the latest XY32 version (27.10.0601) does offer an option to Upgrade to the latest (currently beta) Version of XY64.Vocalpoint wrote: ↑13 Aug 2025 14:48 And stil no (easy) sign of a transition to this "new" 64 bit version.
