- that's it in a nutshell, Ctrl-Sh-N works fine everywhere else and creates a new text file like it's supposed to, but trying to do this in a directory on a USB stick gets me the message "Could not create new item."
(Apart from this, operations on the USB stick - making directories etc - work as expected).
Any ideas?

Works fine here on my USB stick. No idea why it should not work.
Does Explorer allow you to create a file there?

Re: Ctrl-Sh-N not working on USB stick
sorry, details were a bit sparse! OS is Windows XP, SP2. XYPlorer is ver 7.5.0009. I just tried it in Windows Explorer and created a text file no problem from File > New.
The stick is a Disgo "ClvrStuf" 1 gig. Oddly enough, I just tried a different stick - different make, not sure which, 2g. Tried the same thing on it in XYPlorer - Ctrl-Sh-N to create a text file. Got the same message, "Could not create new item", however it then went ahead and created it!
Apart from this, the Disgo stick works normally in terms of file operations.

Puuh, what the hell could be going on there?Smith-Corona wrote:sorry, details were a bit sparse! OS is Windows XP, SP2. XYPlorer is ver 7.5.0009. I just tried it in Windows Explorer and created a text file no problem from File > New.

Has anybody here seen such problems?

1. What happens if you assign a different keyboard shorcut to "create new text file"?Smith-Corona wrote:sorry, details were a bit sparse! OS is Windows XP, SP2. XYPlorer is ver 7.5.0009. I just tried it in Windows Explorer and created a text file no problem from File > New.

I just tried it with the one I have without issue. I am on XP SP3 with the latest beta.

Re: Ctrl-Sh-N not working on USB stick
Very odd. I tried changing the shortcut (to Ctrl-Alt-K), tried it, got the same message. Then I tried it in a folder on my hard drive - and now I got the same message about "could not create new file"!! Now, switching back and forth between shortcuts, I get the same message no matter where I try to create the text file. (And it's the same whether I try it from a shortcut or from the menu). So now it doesn't seem to be particularly to do with the USB stick.
I know I used to be able create a text file on the hard drive, whether it used to work on the USB stick I couldn't swear to.
I guess I could just try reinstalling XYPlorer, I see we're up to 7.6 anyway...

Oh, well, if it is ver. v7.50.0009, than we already had it discussed here and here (however the problem was not limited to USB sticks).admin wrote:Puuh, what the hell could be going on there?

@Smith-Corona: Just install the new version and everything should work.

Re: Ctrl-Sh-N not working on USB stick
sorry, I used to keep up with all the betas, but I lapsed... Installing the new beta did indeed fix the problem. Why (or indeed if) there should ever have been a USB aspect to it, who can say.
Thanks
(great programme by the way, and it's amazing the speed, frequency and value of the updates...)
