delay in starting

Post by alxdvc »

Hi all, I have XYplorer trial version installed 27.00.0300, I passed the 30 days evaluation.
Just ricently I noticed that it takes like 10s or more to start... which is annoying. Is this part of the evaluation. thing?
Would something like that be fixed by purchasing a licence?
Also, at times I noticed that XYplorer freezes when moving files manually from windows to XYplorer tab.

Any suggestion is welcome!
cheers

It's not part of the evaluation thing.

1- Why do you have multiple portable versions installed?
2- Are they all the same version number?
3- You don't need to "install" the portable version. Simply download the latest and unzip it either overwriting your existing, or into a new directory.
4- I still want to understand why you have multiples.
5- Is startup still slow when using a fresh install? Type "::fresh" (without the quotes) into the address bar and press enter.

1) because I am working with different projects, which have the same folder structure but different data, so it´s easier to have a stand alone XYplorer for each porject, unless there is a better suggestion
2) yes
3) I know i don´t have to download and install, but I have all the settings for each project: tabs, etc... so how do i migrate to a new XY plorer?
4) I explained
5) i am not installing it, as I am ok with the portable versions

thanks in any case, pls let me know!

You misunderstood. Open an instance of XY that you say is starting up slowly. Go to the address bar and type in "::fresh" without the quotes. It will open up a new XY with all default settings. Does it also take as long to star?

thank you! after the ::fresh in fact the new istance of XYplorer loads fast and fine, no delays. I believe I have evoked the generic XYplorer installed.

Then I opened the portable version which refers to my project, and it loads fine and fast! thank you! I will keep this in mind!

There absolutely is a better way, either create a different tabset for each project and load whichever one you're currently working on.
If that is not enough (because the differences between your current instances are not just tab related) look into the Session Manager script from the Script Exchange Forum here.
