I observed that whatever app is used for ico file in Default apps>choose default apps by file type, that app's icon is getting applied

Reset your ico filetype association in Windows Settings to default.

there is no option to reset to the default,what app should I select for ico file type in settings

Make sure to undo your previous CFA CFI entry.

To make this work I didn't used the CFA but used CFI,what do you mean by undo,what should I do in the CFI setting

Whoops I meant CFI, either uncheck your entry to get back to default behavior or change it without the brackets so it is like this:
jpg>D:\sync\exe\gen icons\star-01.ico
Make sure you try restarting XY if you still see the wrong icon since you reset file assoc.
