Since Windows Explorer can't display sample rate and bit depth for audio files in a column, I started looking for alternatives and came across XYplorer.
XYplorer can show the details I need and do much more, but I ran into another problem - some metadata values are displayed multiple times.
In the example below, it's "Contributing Artists" and "Genre".
As a workaround I can use "Tags Artists" and "Tags Genre" instead, but is there a way to make XYplorer to present “Contributing Artists” and “Genre” values only once?
These values also appear multiple times in the Metadata Shell Properties window.
But Windows file properties display the same values only once.
When I hover over a file name in XYplorer, the values are also displayed once.
BTW, hovering over shows full details only in Windows 10, in Windows 11 it shows only the file name without details.
Same version of XYplorer (26.70.0500) on Win10 and Win11, out of the box, no configuration changes.
In the info panel, in the “Meta” tab, the values are also presented multiple times.
But in the “Raw View” tab the values only appear once.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Re: Metadata values displayed multiple times.
Interesting. Does this happen with all audio files or just certain ones. If the latter, can you email one of them to support?

Re: Metadata values displayed multiple times.
This only seems to happen with FLAC files.
None of the MP3 files I have show this problem.
As a test, I converted the FLAC file to MP3, AIFF, and AAC, and the metadata is correctly presented in the new file formats, the values are only shown once.
I also made a new rip from a CD using different formats, and the problem only occurs with FLAC.
I will email the FLAC file to support.

Re: Metadata values displayed multiple times.
I'd assume your file is tagged multiple times, like with ID3v1 ID3v2 and Vorbis tags, really it should only have the latter to be valid.
Re: Metadata values displayed multiple times.
OK, if so, why does "Raw View" show the values once, shouldn't they appear multiple times?
Also, how can I prevent multi-tagging or remove extra tags? Some FLAC files are ripped from CDs using dBpoweramp so tags are assigned automatically, others are from high-res digital downloads and come pre-tagged. Tag editors like Mp3tag, dBpoweramp, AudioShell, MediaInfo, MusicBrainz Picard, all show the values only once. Is there a better tag editor that can fix the problem?

Re: Metadata values displayed multiple times.
Those tags in Raw view look like Vorbis tags, its likely if you scroll down you will see multiple tags, ID3v2 can be at the end of the file, not the beginning. Anyway I am only giving a hypothesis, I could be wrong.
Each ripping software is different, so I can't answer for them all, most of those tag editors should let you remove ID3 tags completely, while leaving Vorbis, and when ripping they should have options on what type of tags to write.
Anyway just wait for the dev to reply, he may make changes to XY (if required), but you can as you already mention just use the inbuilt XY Tag columns which also only show the values once.
Alternatively the issue might just be the flac codec you have installed, the dev should be able to tell you when he receives your email with the sample flac.

Re: Metadata values displayed multiple times.
Well, I got your FLAC file and surprisingly the tags do not appear multiple times anywhere
I tested this with Win 8.1. Since these are shell properties (XY only reports what it gets from Windows), the OS version is probably relevant. What's yours?

Re: Metadata values displayed multiple times.
I tested it on Windows 10 and 11. Both show multiple values.

Re: Metadata values displayed multiple times.
Confirmed. It's a Windows bug, but since it's so obvious and unmistakable, I just added something to work around it. Next beta.
