Folder View Questions

Post by eurytos »

is this the intended behavior?

If I select 'auto-save changes' in default folder view the default setting is updated and then applied to all other folders anytime I change the way a folder is displayed anywhere. Thinking it over, I am going to say yes that it is functioning as intended.

But I am trying to set it up so I have a default setting which will apply to any folders where I have not specifically set a view and have XY automatically create (replace) a folder view for the specific folder when I make any modifications from the default. Basically I want XY to assume I will always 'view / folder view settings / save folder view' anytime I make a change. Is this possible to do?

to elaborate:

I have a default setting which obviously takes affect for ever folder I go to without a specific view. If I then modify the sort order (or any other applicable setting) of a folder I would like XY to automatically create (replace) the folder view for that folder not the default view.

Automatic creation of FV isn't supported no. I'm not sure it would be such a good idea, because sometimes one might need to sort by say Modified and not Name, just to find something, but that doesn't mean there should be a FV created for every folder this happens, or one could end up with a lot of FVs, not always wanted.
Plus, in such a case, sorting again to Name would still have a FV for that folder, not "revert" to the Default FV...

Anyways, seems that you do not want to use the auto-save changes here for DFV indeed, as it is intended to have the same settings used in all folders without FV, which isn't what you're trying to do here. For now you'll have to click the TB icon every time you change something (View, Sort order, etc) on a folder without FV that you want remembered in the future, to create a new FV.
