CFA has problems when hieroglyphs in name.

Post by eil »

Accidentally noticed that CFA seem to not work when target has hieroglyphs name. i have CFA to use on folders through OpenWith toolbar button :
\;mp3>?:\Progs\fb2k\foobar2000.exe
Never had any issues, but here i've got a folder with only japanese hieroglyphs name and when i click that OpenWith button, only basic Open in Explorer" is shown - my CFA and XY's internal "Append modified date" command don't show in dropdown.

Why not show the complete line with that Japanese path?

I said "the complete line". I mean the complete CFA definition line.

Can't reproduce, a test entry for folders & mp3 shows up regardless if the folder only consists of "hieroglyphs" or not...

Made some experiments and understood that strange behaviour happens only on portable media. Initially that path was on old micro-sd card in laprop's card-reader. Checked on flash drive by creating folder with same name or even shorter one = confirmed, not proper OpenWith menu too. Presumably it's narrowed to portable devices.
Somebody needs to check this criteria, who knows maybe it's just something wrong with my old portable storages, but i have no others to check more.

Oh well, then it's smth on my side. Totally not a problem for me since have no such names occasionally, reported only since though that might be a problem for asian users.

I can confirm the described behavior on fat32 drives, additionally on fat32 breadcrumb/tab/menu/etc icons don't show for this folder either for me (tree/list is ok).

I am on eng OS if relevant.

Confirmed!

Something weird is going on. Others have met it too: https://github.com/dotnet/runtime/issues/64789

Working on it... :maf:

Should be fixed in next beta. 8)

By the way, if you're wondering why there are still problems with Unicode characters in 2024: XYplorer uses the latest, most advanced Windows technologies to become and remain what it is, the fastest file manager on the planet. But it turns out that Microsoft forgot to make some of these things work on FAT32.
