Problems with Multiple "Error 9 (0x00000009) - Subscript out of range" Error Messages

Post by cfguy101 »

Hi Everyone,

Longtime user of XYplorer Pro, and major fan (could not live without it!!!!)

Lately, I have been having problems with a lot of "Error 9 (0x00000009) - Subscript out of range" error messages.

It happened to me twice today.

I will usually have about two separate instances of XYplorer Pro running (along with other programs that I am working with).

The XYplorer Pro programs have been working very well, until I need to take some time away from my computer, then when I come back I find an "Error 9 (0x00000009) - Subscript out of range" error for one of the two running XYplorer Pro programs, and will be forced to close the one with the error code (other instance will usually continue to work fine).

I will post screenshots and text of both instances of the "Error 9 (0x00000009) - Subscript out of range" error codes (one in the morning, and one in the afternoon).

Any feedback, suggestions or other ideas would be welcome, of course. Thanks.

I think we discussed this before (viewtopic.php?t=25903) and it did not lead to much. Anyway, the next beta will have an improved error message that should give more insight.

Hi Admin,

Thanks so much for your response to my message about the XYplorer Pro Error 9 messages that I keep encountering.

Apologies for my delayed reply - my mother is experiencing some bad health problems and has been staying with me so that I may act as her caregiver and try to find the best solutions and care for the problems she is experiencing.

You had mentioned in your las post that you were "waiting for the error messages" . In my original post, I actually did post the text of the two separate error 9 error messages I encountered while using XYplorer Pro that day. I went back and looked at my original post, and I must apologize because I made an error in posting the same screenshot of the first error 9 message that I encountered that day twice, by mistake (as you will notice timestamps on both error 9 message screenshots posted have the exact same contents and, most importantly, date and time (right down to the second). My apology for that (that was sloppy/careless on my part). However, if you look at the clipboard text I posted (via the helpful XYplorer Pro option to copy error text to clipboard") for both errors that day, you will notice a different time stamp on the text of each error posted.

Not to be critical of the functionality of the "Beta Club" XYplorer Support Forum, but I have trouble (lately each time I log om and compose a new message/post) in that I would compose a message here on the XYplorer "Beta Club" Support Forum, and then take the time to upload my accompanying screenshots into the message; however when I am finished and go to post it online, I am instead find that I have been automatically logged out of my XYplorer "Beta Club" Support Forum session, and am redirected immediately to the screen asking me to enter my username and password again to re-start the session, only when the session is restarted, my forum message that I took so much time to prepare and upload the screenshots into is gone and no longer on the screen (a blank message screen just appears after I am re-logged into the "Beta Club" support forum).

This is quite frustrating, because I have lost all the text of my message that I composed, as well as the supporting screenshots that I had uploaded and took the time to insert, at a certain point, into my post. This happened to me with my original post (so I ended up having to recreate the entire post and re-upload and place the supporting screenshots into the new post (this is where I made the error of a "duplicate" screenshot post in my second version of the message). I think I was feeling rushed and a bit in a hurry to try to recreate the entire (yet unposted) post that I had just lost.

The same thing happened to me just today with this current post. The version you are reading now is a "second version" of the reply to your post (as I again had the first version all ready to post, and again was automatically logged off of the "Beta Club" XYplorer Support Forum) and I had to once again recreate my entire post again. :(

But this time I have gotten wiser - this current version of the post that you (or anyone else) is reading was first typed in Word (where I know I could save it, and it would not "disappear on me") and I used copy/past function to then past the text into the message box of the "Beta Club" XYplorer Support Forum.

In the meantime, I have continued to encounter these error 9 error messages (followed by an XYplorer Pro program crash/forced termination) every time I use my computer - which is about once a day, as XYplorer Pro is such an important and helpful program for me (I have one instance of the program set up to automatically start, each time my computer is rebooted.

Now that I know that additional error 9 error messages/screenshots would be helpful in solving the problem, I will be sure to continue to post more of them, as they occur.

You had mentioned a new a new version of XYplorer Pro will be available to download sometimes soon. Do you have any guess as to when it will be posted on your website to download?'

I check for a new update every time I clean my computer using the "CCleaner" and "Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer" programs, in an attempt to get rid of the "junk files" on my computer and to (hopefully) allow it to run faster after cleaning and reboot; however I haven’t seen any new XYplorer Pro versions in a while (seems like there were a lot of XYplorer Pro updates posted more frequently for a period, but now it has slowed down at the moment).

In any regard, I will continue to capture screenshots and copied text from the XYplorer Pro program to the clipboard of any additional error messages that I receive and post them here to the "Beta Club" XYplorer Support Forum, for your and anyone else's reference (that they might be helpful for, If experiencing similar problems with the program).

In the meantime, thank you again so much for all of your help and kindness. :)

With Best Wishes,
-Cfguy

Hi Highend - Thanks for the info about the new betas. No one had ever made me aware of this before. As recommended, I have already taken the step to back up my XYplorer Application Data Folder, and I will try installing the latest beta release next.

Thanks again for your help! :)

Hi Admin,

Screenshot and clipboard data capture (via XYplorer Pro program) of my most recent Error 9 (0x00000009) Error Message are posted at the end of this message, for your reference.

Fellow Beta Club member "Highend" recently made me aware of beta releases of XYplorer that could potentially help with or solve the Error 9 (0x00000009) error messages (not sure why no one had ever made me aware of this before).

There is no personal notification service. New betas (and releases) are announced in the forum topic "BETA Versions for Download" which is the very first forum topic.

Yes, of course. I overlooked that option since every time I go to the forum I start with all the unread (new) posts and replies. And it's a rare day when Don hasn't issued a new beta, so always see them each time I log on.

Updating the current version* on the fly is super easy: just do Help | Online Support | Check for Updates and OK some dialogs. Done. No need to do any backups beforehand.

* including current beta versions if you check Configuration | General | Startup & Exit | Include beta versions

Another Error 9 message (second day in a row), still using XYplorer Pro v26.30; however after posting this, I plan to install the latest beta version (v26.30.0204 - 2024-08-19 15:32) that fellow Beta Club member "Highend" was very kind in letting me know existed, and could be downloaded and installed once my XYplorer Application Data Folder had been backed up (did that just yesterday). Hoping for good results with the new beta version.

In the meantime, below please find screenshot and text of today's Error 9 Message:

Hi cfguy101

On August 5 admin wrote that he improved the error message in the next beta, yet you keep posting error messages from a version published before that date (thus not having the improved error message and not helping much).
Once you finally update to the most current beta version and receive another error 9, it might give admin some new info.

On a side note: Why do you need more than one instance of XY open? Multiple instances (using the same ini) can lead to trouble as any changes you make to XY might get lost if you are not mindful with Save Settings on Exit. Dual Pane and Tabsets are a better approach to various workflows.
