I have been doing a lot of searching and reading but still couldn't solve this issue, so here i am posting a new topic.
I thought i had found the way to do it by holding shift when unticking 'hide extensions' in "Tools|Customize List" but that did not work and whenever i open a new folder the file name extensions are hidden unless i had previously done "Save Current Folder View" for a specific location.
I need the extensions to be shown by default in list view everywhere and only hide them in one specific folder where i use icons thumbnails view.
How do i get this done please?
Show file name extensions in list view globally/by default.

Configure it to show file extensions, save it as the default folder view.
Configure your special folder(s) to hide them, save them as (normal) folder views...

Okaay, looks like i am officially dumb cause this solution seem so obvious that i am scratching my head now. How did i not figure this out by myself is perplexing to say the least!
Anyways... thx a lot, apparently this has solved my issue and all files in all folders are now showing extensions, however it did not work for the root folder of drives. If i open D: drive for example, the extensions are still hidden. Of course i can easily save folder view for each drive but out of curiosity i would like to ask if there is another way to show extensions for all root folders of all drives at once, too?

And there is no folder view saved for D:\ that overrides the default one?

Re: Show file name extensions in list view globally/by default.
nailed it.
EDIT: well, in fact after setting my preferred folder view [show extensions in list view] and applying it to all folders in "View|Folder View Settings|Define this Folder View as Default" it seemed to behave as i wanted, but after closing XYplorer with "Exit(Saving)" and opening it again, the default view was no longer what i had set but instead the thumbnail view i had chosen for that specific icons folder. I tried doing the same thing a few times but no luck and each time i would close and reopen XY the same thumbnails view was there taunting me.
I also tried clicking on "Files|Save Settings" but that did not help which was puzzling me.
I was starting to get fumes out of my ears when suddenly i saw the light and checked "Automatically Apply Default View".
Now all is as i wanted it to be and remains the same after closing and reopening XY.
