:info: Please include the following information:
1) Your XYplorer Version (e.g., v28.00.0801)
2) Your Windows Version (e.g., Win 11)
3) Your Screen Scaling Percentage (e.g., 125%).

:info: We strongly recommend adding your Windows Version and Screen Scaling Percentage to the Location field in your Profile or to your Signature. That way, you only have to type them once, and we won't have to search for that vital information.

Error 7 for me too. During copy.

Post by spacename »

So I bought XYplorer primarily for the custom copy feature (as I grew tired of Windows' nonsense). I like XYPlorer otherwise.
.. but now I have XYplorer nonsense during a copy; Error 7 out of memory.

System is an 8700k 64GB ram, with Win11 pro.
The copy is between HDDs being used for archives and backups of mostly software projects, CAD files, and images for textures.
I just want to copy my files. 1.7 TB of files should not be a problem.. so what's the problem ?

The 1.7 TB has 2.8 mil files, I had an error 7.
I tried to move half, I had error 7.
I tried to move 1/4, I had error 7.
I stopped trying.

I have a license for XYPlorer but I have this machine air-gaped. I haven't bothered to resolve the license on it yet.
The system is air gaped, so this is a pic of the error screen for one of the many time I encountered error 7.

I have read various pages on here about this..
It appears to be an elusive bug.

Whenever this gets resolved, please send out a mass email to all licensees. THX
No need to reply unless someone wants to add something new to this. Thx.

If you ever see this error message again, please take a screenshot. There is some information in it that will help me fix it.

How strange that the image didn't post.
Sorry about that.. unsure what happened there.

It's not the number of bytes, it's the number of files. The current architecture does not allow such a high number. Even today, such a number of files is a rare thing. I cannot give a definite limit because it depends on other hard and soft factors. You will have to divide the job into even smaller parts than you have already tried.

Eventually, the architecture will be redesigned to work without limits, but I cannot give a date.

Side note style of conjecture;
Hmm, >80% of the people I work with have similar file counts and we're using multiple drives that are high file count saturated in asset files of varying types.

Clients who are photographers have this high of file counts.
Game developers easily reach this count on drives near-annually (depending on the engine). Example; Unity and their file systems, build systems, engine.. millions of file *per project*.

Interesting information!

I could reproduce error 7 when copying 2,600,000 items. Still thinking about a solution... :maf:

Tell me a bit about your copy job.
1) How many items (folders?) did you select and where (tree or list?)
2) How did you trigger the job (copy-paste, drag-drop, or otherwise?)
3) Are these long paths (> 100 characters, > 200 characters, more?)
