Instant tooltip tweak

Post by PlorerXY6 »

For incompletely displayed items in Details view, can we have an option to display the tooltip both a) instantly and b) inline (not offset)

See gif attached from QTTabbar

That's a +1 from me, unless Don has a particular reason for it not being able to work that way.

Nice idea but it would only be relevant if normal file info tips are turned off. And I don't see the big advantage. There's also the disadvantage that other columns of this item are covered. And since standard Windows tooltips don't work that way, I would have to create a native tooltip class just for this. I would say: nice to have, maybe later.

Yes you're right I do turn off other Infotips...I find I highly prefer this instant tooltip when using QTTabbar on File Explorer (it's the 'display incomplete names in details view' setting there!). Especially on vertical monitors with less horizontal view space. It is nice because you don't re-orient your eye to the offset tooltip and also it lets you quickly move your mouse to see what files there are without needing to expand the column (if you leave Name super wide then you'll lose the date modified column, size, etc - this way everything is visible when needed).
