:info: Please include the following information:
1) Your XYplorer Version (e.g., v28.00.0801)
2) Your Windows Version (e.g., Win 11)
3) Your Screen Scaling Percentage (e.g., 125%).

:info: We strongly recommend adding your Windows Version and Screen Scaling Percentage to the Location field in your Profile or to your Signature. That way, you only have to type them once, and we won't have to search for that vital information.

Super slow Zip

Post by avivariba »

This might not be a bug but it feels like it for it makes this feature practically unusable. Compressing multiple selected files (#281; or File List Context Menu > Zip) seems to take forever with no apparent way to stop the process (pressing Escape doesn't do anything and pressing Cancel only cancels that one particular file from being added but with it continuing to add the other files).

Tested with several different folders and files, but for example for
  • 60 files
  • 500 MB in total
Windows' Context Menu > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder
  • Takes under 12 seconds
  • One progress bar for the entire archive
  • Can be canceled/stopped at any given moment
WinRAR ZIP
  • Takes under 7 seconds
  • One progress bar for the entire archive
  • Can be canceled/stopped at any given moment
XYplorer:
  • Takes over 2 minutes
  • A progress bar for each file separately
  • Cannot be stopped, only individual files can be canceled if big enough for the progress bar to stay visible long enough

Yes, it sucks. It was always meant to be a stopgap. It's not a serious solution.

Get some special archiver for the job, WinRAR or 7-Zip do it for me.

Anyway, I'll add break-by-ESC to the next beta. At least you can stop the suffering now.
