Making XY default file manager

The one thing I really need is to make any file manager I use the default manager. Only Opus (as far as I know) has the option to make it default, but is way to pricey for me.

Hi and Welcome to XYplorer forum,

There have been several requests for the same issue and XYwiki has the answer for you.

Hi and welcome to the XY world!

As to your question, (which has been asked/answered many times before, BUT unlike some other forums, we don't mind repeats especially from new users!), the best source for an answer can be found in the wiki:

How to make XY Default File Mngr

Given that XY doesn't get involved with the Registry, it's up to users to do so themselves...so that's why it's handled thusly.

And yes, DO is pricey and I think you'll find that XY either can do the same functions for less money or it may in near future (or we'll find a way to do so via an external free appl), so feel free to join in and ask more questions, ok?

Addendum: Seems that someone else answered while I was typing, but you still get my reply anyway!

Thanks people for your replies. I think I'm going to like it here at this forum. Friendly and informative. XY is now my default file manager.

You're welcome! And yes, I think you will really like it here as we try our best to be friendly and useful...but if your first post here had been, as some have done, something like "my old FM did abc, def, ghi, etc so XY MUST do it also and NOW or else!", then you'd see a somewhat different attitude! Like more  , but still as nice as we could be under the circumstances.

I originally had only planned to post once or twice when I joined, and you see what happened, right? I got drawn in and hooked on XY and this forum! Hopefully you'll do likewise, though it's perfectly ok if you don't.

Come on, jch, I'm such a nice guy. I only speak out what the majority thinks here.

Just look at the posts of admin. He seems to change his opinion more often than some people their underwear. DP is on the roadmap, then it is off the roadmap, then it is there again...

- "I found a better way: I took DP off the roadmap. Sorry, folks, but I want to close this discussion for good. You'll find DP file managers everywhere you go. Here is multi-tab. Period."

- "I wonder: is it a small but loud group of mad junkies (it seems so, looking at their dogmatic attachment to an outdated Win3.1 interface), OR is it a real majority of serious computer workers? I mean, MS dropped dual pane 12 years ago with Win95 and the introduction of the folder tree and never brought it back. Is MS also hassled by "Please DP"-whining?"

- "There goes the 2nd one within a few weeks... does the two-fools-rule apply? Hmmm... Or maybe the dual-fools rule??... Rolling Eyes Well, well, but I'm quite flattered by the subtle air of pathos that's left in the room when they are already out of the door."

- Well, that was before Mesh finally succeeded in overcoming the resistence.

Just stop playing games and face reality: DP will be there in the near future, it will be a comprehensive implementation and not some half-hearted approach because that's the only way to restore calm on the part of us DP proponents.

Sorry for the OT.

Well, if you are "a nice guy", then you'd not hijack this thread to complain about something totally unrelated!

If you paid close attention, which it seems you didn't, you'd have noticed that I specifically referred to first time posters (who are coming from another product) who demand a series of features, not just one, as you did. I was thinking of two other userids from last year(?) but whenever, it was very many months ago. Had I been referring to you or the DP thread, I'd have phased it totally different. And your views do not represent the majority here, I'm almost 100% certain. Yes, some of us want DP but we're not dominated by that issue as you seem to be.

Unless you're Don's twin/clone, then you can't say when/if/how DP will be implemented, and you know as well as I do that's true. And the primary reason for the change in plans by Don on DP is posters such as yourself, so keep it up and DP will be back off the roadmap, and that will be a big loss for all. I've (and a few others) worked hard over a number of months to get DP back on roadmap more than once, and don't need any DP fanatics to help me. So please back off and wait patiently, ok?
dualpane-groupie wrote:Sorry for the OT.
I really seriously doubt that! Why would you jump into a thread that was started by another apparently happy new user and try to introduce a problem? Using the term Don did, you have the symptoms of an astroturfing troll so why should I even reply to you? Because you're now interfering with another users discussion that has nothing to do with you or your "issue" and that's just not appropriate here, so please return back to your favorite competing DP product and let XY develop as it will.

Hijack this thread? You Americans with your war against terrorism and all dissenters seem to really suffer from megalomania and persecution complex.

So that's my last post here (yes, you can celebrate) because there is nothing more to say. DP will be implemented, it's inevitable... I'M WAITING.

Please wait with your mute mode enabled. You did hijack this thread by posting about something completely unrelated to the thread's core. You said so yourself by saying that you're sorry for the OT. Good things come to those who wait. And I'm not American so don't even think about going down that road...

Off topic??

 Wow! I guess there is always one in every crowd (forum). I've run into these types before on other forums and believe me when I say, they were treated with a lot less respect that you showed the off topic. On other forums, they actually bar them from posting for the kind of attitude shown here.

Like I said, I think, no, I am sure I'm going to enjoy this forum.
