running an .EXE file, smartscreen wants to connect outbound to scan the file, but I block smartscreen at the firewall.

Lack of precision. :\

You mean you run any EXE file from XYplorer, eg by double-clicking it in the list?

Sorry, yes. Also, it's not every .exe, mostly it is happening with downloaded files, probably a MOTW thing...

...but the hDC error suggests maybe something about UAC or the firewall software prompt (WFC, binisoft.org)?

This has been happening for a while, but never posted about it. Today it's happened a few times in a row, Einstein's Definition of Insanity, so I figured I'd mention it. Seems pretty reproducible.

It's the list auto-refresh timer that throws the error. Why is there a refresh? :eh:

1) Run this script: logchange 5;

2) Provoke the error

3) Run this script: dlog;

4) Post the results

More info: Does seem like it's MOTW related:

If I tick this box, the crash does not happen, since the file is not blocked by Windows. So it appears not related to my firewall blocking smartscreen.exe, rather that Windows marked the file with MOTW. I'm not sure how long this has been causing XY to crash, but I do know Windows has been using this Unblock feature for a very long time.

This is all that appears after entering "logchange 5;" causing the crash, then running "dlog;" :

OK, thanks! This is also telling me what I need to know. The error will be gone in the next beta.

Thanks. :D

BTW, with this (changed 5 to 6) there should be an actual result in the debug log:

1) Run this script: logchange 6;

2) Provoke the error

3) Run this script: dlog;

4) Post the results

Unfortunately, still crashing with 24.20.0016

locgchange 6; still produces only the header line.

The file I am using to reproduce this is the K-lite update:
https://www.codecguide.com/klcp_update.htm

Once you run the file once, you will need to download it again to restore the MOTW.
