:info: Please include the following information:
1) Your XYplorer Version (e.g., v28.00.0801)
2) Your Windows Version (e.g., Win 11)
3) Your Screen Scaling Percentage (e.g., 125%).

:info: We strongly recommend adding your Windows Version and Screen Scaling Percentage to the Location field in your Profile or to your Signature. That way, you only have to type them once, and we won't have to search for that vital information.

Breadcrumb Bar Hover Bug

Post by Ascy »

Steps to recreate:

(Not entirely sure what the exact trigger is, it just happens after XYplorer is open for a while. But it may be something to do with the following)
  • In XYplorer, open a directory nested several (eg 6) folders deep.
  • Hibernate Windows.
  • Resume Windows, log back on.
  • Select the instance of XYplorer that was open.
  • Hover over the breadcrumb bar towards the rightmost folder.
Expected:
  • The folder under the mouse cursor is highlighted.
Actual:
  • One of the folders to the left of the mouse cursor is activated.
A video in gif format highlighting the issue is below, along with a picture of my monitor setup (2x 4k monitors and 1x HD screen - the primary monitor is the rightmost 4k monitor and XYplorer is on the leftmost HD screen).

Observations
  • The issue is fixed by restarting XYplorer.
  • Moving it to a different monitor does not fix the issue.
  • The more left that the mouse cursor goes, the more 'correct' it is in highlighting the correct folder.
  • The more right that the mouse cursor goes, the more out of alignment the tracking gets.
  • The issue only affects the breadcrumb bar - none of the other buttons or menus are affected.
I'm using version 23.90 on Windows 11. Thank-you in advance for any help.

Weird!

1) Is this Win11? Saw it... :) It might be the reason. Win11 is full of bugs.

2) Are you sure that tabs and toolbar are not affected? (there is only one tab and no toolbar in your movie)

Yes, only the breadcrumb bar is affected. I have two logins for my computer, my main login and the one I use for contract work. On my main login, I have the toolbar enabled (but for the life of me, can't seem to find how to enable it for my other login).

Highlighted in red is what is affected. Everything in green (ie everything else) works just fine. Seems like there's something different about the breadcrumb bar.

I've updated to version 24.10 and am still getting the same issue. I'm also pretty sure that one of the triggers (or possibly the only trigger) is resuming my laptop after hibernating it. Last night I restarted XYplorer after installing the latest version and it was working fine. This morning (after having hibernated my computer overnight), the issue was back. I've tried locking my computer to see if that triggers it, but logging straight back in results in no issue.

Interesting. Breadcrumbs, Tabs, and Toolbar are all made from the same stuff, but you are right, something must be different in the breadcrumbs. But it will be tough to find this difference in the dark (without seeing the effect here in my environment), and given that it's a rather minor and rare issue, I will wait until I can see it myself (which should be possible in Win11 with two screens, which I will have later this year).

PS: GOSH, straight after writing the above I saw the difference. Or a difference, but I assume it's the one. Try next beta...

You'll know it if you see it - the further from the left edge you get, the more out of alignment it gets.

Thanks for looking into it, much appreciated!

You mean it's not fixed in the current beta?

Hadn't realised that you'd released a beta with a fix already. I've downloaded and installed it now and will let you know how it goes. Thanks!
