XY 7.10 Cyrillic filenames problem
After updating version 7.00 to 7.10 such a problem appeared:
Instead of Cyrillic (russian) filenames
eg "Новая папка" ("Novaya papka" in russian = "New folder" in English)
is displayed as "*U+041D*U+043E*U+0432*U+0430*U+044F *U+043F*U+0430*U+043F*U+043A*U+0430"
every character is converted to "*U+code"
So all the letters are displayed in unicode values. I've looked through configuration and help file, but didn't find an option to turn off the feature of displaying filenames (in encodings other then Western) in Unicode.
This problem is present in Address bar when I select any file or folder.
Also when I try to rename any file with cyrillic name Xyplorer replaces letters with UNC values and then refuses to save the file.
If this is a bug - please try to remove in in future versions, if this is an option, tell me please how to turn it off.
All other programs (both Unicode and ASCII versions) work correctly with russian language.
And this problem doesn't seem to be an encoding problem - Xyplorer doesn't display wrong encoding:
- all russian filenames are diplayed correctly in filelist;
- the problem is seen only in address bar and after renaming a file or creating a new one with russian name;
- i found similiar complaints in other forums (so I'm not the only person with such problem)
In Xyplorer 7.00 there is no such problem - the path in address bar is shown correctly.
But when I rename any file Xyplorer 7.00 displayes the annoying message - "Note that UNICODE characters will not be preserved in the new name", and afer clicking OK it saves the name correctly. Then why is this message displayed. My system encoding is "Windows 1251", but not UNICODE, than what's the problem? and how to remove this useless notification in XY 7.00?
OS: Windows XP Professional SP2 (Russian)
PS. Thanks for reading this long post...

Hi medder,
I'm actually working this right now!
Get the latest beta version v7.10.0014 from yesterday and you'll see that the List already supports editing Unicode.

Wow, great, it's the quickest techsupport i've ever seen. Thanks.
I've downloaded v7.10.0016:
Renaming files works fine!
Problem with address bar still persists.
Off topic:
What about making an option to hide file extensions?
I've read your comments in other thread: advanced users don't use it, etc.
I'm one of them
but still sometimes need this function.
At first it's sometimes more comfortable to use "Ext" column instead of reading long filename.
At second sometimes you need to rename many files or look through a long list of files with the same extension - and when extension is hidden, nothing takes away your attention.
At the same time file icon, color filters and Ext column help you to distinguish filetypes.
It'll make woking with files even more comfortable and quick. And the speed and comfort is the reason of using XYplorer instead of other filemanagers

Yes, but it will be fixed as well. However, fixing the address bar is a little more complex and will take a little longer... it uses the nasty MS Combobox which I will have to emulate completely...a little work but it will pay off greatly because it gives me (and you) full control over how the combobox works!medder wrote:Wow, great, it's the quickest techsupport i've ever seen. I can't believe a power user is really asking for this!medder wrote:Off topic:

I would be quite some work for me... and given the few people that will use this (and the utter uselessness of it

Does this mean we will be able to officially navigate the MRU/Auto-Complete lists via (Shift+)Tab in the future? And possibly Ctrl+Backspace (or Ctrl+Shift+Backspace) can use the same word breaking as Ctrl+Left in the AB?admin wrote:Yes, but it will be fixed as well. I'd love to be able to get rid of those AHK scripts!

We'll see. Tab is a very special key where the OS has some say as well. I'll fight for it...TheQwerty wrote:Does this mean we will be able to officially navigate the MRU/Auto-Complete lists via (Shift+)Tab in the future? Re: XY 7.10 Cyrillic filenames problem
The address bar still doesn't display cyrillic letters - it displays U+code instead. Are you working on this problem and will it be solved in future beta versions? How soon?

Re: XY 7.10 Cyrillic filenames problem
Still not fixed?
I got a file called "Безымянный.jpg". The preview window will show the image but the thumbnail would say "Bad Image" and will not generate thumbnail.
Next to confirm it's not image error, I tried to save the report to "Безымянный.txt" then XY would crash immediately.

I assume it's not the name, it's the image. Can you send it to me, then I check.nony wrote:Still not fixed?

i can use that name in any image and the same thing happens.
also, the preview panel shows the image but none of the image properties (like colors and area).
renaming the image solves the problem.
