To add basic capabilities to manage search templates on the Find Files tab

Post by John_C »

It seems wrong to me that managing search templates, even saving the current search as a new template, is completely separate from the Find Files tab.

It might be a good idea to add buttons "Save to Template" and "Manage Templates" somewhere on the Find Files tab. The "Manage Templates" button should open the "Search Templates" window (#264).

I also would suggest to move the "Contents" tab to the left, after "Name & Location". These two tabs, in my opinion, are most often used, most useful ones. Having the "Contents" tab to be the 6th seems to be wrong.

Good morning,
Wow. I never knew (or remembered) that Search Templates even existed ! Your idea prompted me to search the Help file for it. I've now just done a few searches, saves, etc. with it and I can +1 your idea for the buttons.

John_C, you have too many ideas. How about learning to code and creating your own file manager? :P

Too much coffee, probably [kidding]. Yes, you are correct, sorry for mass posting. The ideas that I have posted here recently are from my previous years of using XY. So it's not something I have a new idea each day or even a week. :)

I know you're kidding.
However, I still wanted to mention the following.

If everyone learns to code, you may lose a little.
The efforts of us, the members of the forum, will be beneficial not only for ourselves but also for you.

It's too late to start learning to code now.
(For me)

In my youth, there was no microsoft, no apple.
There wasn't even an "Altair 8800". ;)

Suppose I learned to code at this age, I don't think I'll be able to finish my own file manager in the rest of my life. :)

Even an expert like you has been working on this for years and it is still not completed. ;)
(since 1997)
(Also, I remember you saying you have a lot of work to do.)

I am not making recommendations for any other file manager.
Because the best file manager is XYplorer.

Why am I writing this?
Because I'm going to make a few requests at the appropriate time.

Good luck.
I use "Google Translate" for my posts. If there are any unkind expressions in my posts, it is because my English is not good.
Please make sure my intentions are good.

Oh my word, I see what you mean. I never knew saving templates was even a thing. Now I do but finding where to do it was a pain. I thought when you said saving and managing them was separate from the Find Files tab that they were in another tab so I searched all the way through the info panel tabs. It wasn't until I started going through the menus that I found Search Templates in the Edit menu. A bit confusing. I agree a change of (or extra) location is a good idea

The button has been removed from the Find Files tab on 20120215. But ok, for those that can't handle Custom Keyboard Shortcuts I will add Search Templates access to the context menu of the Find Files button. :)
