Hi...
Testing v22.60 and I have a question about the lock location function. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding how it's supposed to work.
I'm running with one pane and the drive/directory list on the left. On the right I have two tabs open and I right-click one of them and select 'lock location.' If in the directory list on the left I click another directory that's not in the same partition as the locked location, it opens another tab. That's great and that's what I would expect it to do.
But when I reboot, or close and reopen XYplorer, the locked tab is no longer locked. I would expect any locked tabs to remain persistent.
I've searched through the forum and found a couple of threads about locked location, but none seemed to mention this as an issue.
Am I missing a setting that would keep it locked through restarts?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Re: Persistent Lock Location
Welcome to the forum!
In order for XY to remember such things you need to save your settings at some stage, either by doing it manually after you made some changes (File / Save Settings) or by allowing XY to save settings automatically on exit (see Configuration / Startup and Exit).
For both of these to work you need to have write access to your XY ini file.

Re: Persistent Lock Location
Thanks for the welcome and the reply, RalphM.
I definitely have read/write/modify permission on the .ini file. I also had 'save on exit' enabled but it wasn't being saved when I exited. I hadn't noticed File > Save Settings until you pointed it out. But that didn't seem to help. It was only when I enabled "Save changes to disk immediately" and enabled "tabs" in the Apply to section immediately below it that it appears to have been saved.
I'll test it during the day tomorrow and give it a good workout to make sure it remains persistent.
Thanks again.

Re: Persistent Lock Location
No worries.
The Apply To settings would have been the next step but you found that yourself (didn't want to put too many things in the first post).
I would have thought that if you tick Tabs in the Apply To just above the section you mentioned, your lock status should get saved on exit as well.

Re: Persistent Lock Location
Using 23.70.0200.
I need to revisit this thread as once again, it's not working as expected. I have two tabs open in a single pane. The first tab is set as home with 'set as home zone' and
'lock location' both enabled. On page 186 of the User Guide it says:
I feel like either I'm misunderstanding the description in the user guide. Or I'm not doing something correctly.
Thanks for enlightening me.

'lock location' both enabled. On page 186 of the User Guide it says:
And:Lock Home Zone: First you have to define a home, then you may lock your tab to the Home Zone,
which includes the home path and all its subfolders (in other words, the home branch). You can freely
move inside the home zone and stay inside the tab, but if you browse to a destination outside the
home zone, the tab stays where it is and a new tab will be automatically opened. Home-zoned tabs
are recognizable by a dotted underline. Note: a tab that's home-zoned and tight-locked (Ctrl+L; locked
to a specific path) is treated as tight-locked.
If I click on a sub-directory while in the locked home zone, it opens in the same tab. Okay, that's what the guide says it will do. But when I click on a directory on the same drive as the locked home directory, or any directory on any other drive, it -still- opens in the same tab. The way I'm reading the quoted description, these should open in a new tab. I know I can open a directory in a new tab by shift-click, but I'm trying to get the locked home tab to work as described. And yes, I'm saving the settings once I make the changes, plus XY is set to save settings on exit.Lock Location: Lock the current tab. A locked tab will never leave its current location but instead open
new tab automatically.
I feel like either I'm misunderstanding the description in the user guide. Or I'm not doing something correctly.
Thanks for enlightening me.

Re: Persistent Lock Location
IMHO "Lock Home Zone" and "Lock Location" are mutually exclusive, either you allow browsing to subdirs or not at all.
All my tabsets have a default tab as well and with that setup whenever I click on a folder that is outside of a home zone or a locked location, the default tab is used and opens the clicked folder.

Re: Persistent Lock Location
Hey phred, what you explain should and will happen if that tab is also checked off as a "default" as RalphM mentioned. Any folder locations outside of those in that tab's locked home or home zone or any other tabs will display in the subject tab since it's defined as the default.

Re: Persistent Lock Location
Thanks you both.
I failed to mention that the tab in question, the one that is set as 'home' and has locked location and locked home zone enabled, is also set as the default tab.
I have now disabled lock location so that only default tab and locked home location are enabled. I saved the settings. I closed XY and reopened it. There is a dotted underline under the name of the folder that is the home tab. It is supposed to be locked/default/home to D:\TempStuff. When I click on -any- other folder, be it a sub-folder, a folder within D:\, or a folder on another partition/drive, it still opens in what should be the home/default/locked tab.

Re: Persistent Lock Location
Yes, when you have a tab saved as default, any location you go on your computer will use that tab (unless there's another tab for that particular location). Default will override the fact that that particular tab is locked or locked home. XY is going to use the "default" for any location, and in your case, since you have the default as a locked home (or home zone) as well, it's also going to use that tab for that locked home location.
If you don't like that behavior, you may want to consider having whatever locked home or home zone tabs you want and have a separate default tab that will take in every other location on your computer. It's that or get rid of "default" for that tab and have new tabs created for all the other locations you visit.
In my case I have a locked home tab on D:\ on the right end of my tab bar set as my default. I call it my "Roaming" tab. So, any location I visit uses that tab unless I visit a location that is the same as one my other 10 tabs that are locked home or locked home zoned.

And the prize goes to klownboy!
Once I removed 'default' from the tab in question, I'm getting the behavior I wanted/expected. Thanks for the explanation.
