With the floating preview pane the videos are only played
when I assing the extension to the "Windows Media Player Rich Preview Handler" as explained above.
Without this XY only show a large image which is the same as Windows Explorer preview does in this case.

In the XY preview tab the videos are previewed directly as long as I don't make the assigment to Windows Media Player Rich Preview Handler.
If such an assignment is made XY displays a WMP screen in which I can start playing.

I made this assigments only for testing purposes.
Normaly I use the Direct Show playing in XY and also in TC.

ADMIN>>This so funny. I have used XYplorer for so many years and never knew or discovered there were two ways to do a preview. I have always used F12 to see my previews without even a simple clue that there was an CNTL-F11 to bring up another way to view. LOL. Now I have more learning, adjusting, and fixing to do just knowing there is something else to "fiddle" with.

Some clarification.
The differences in how videos are played is not relevant for the most formats.
Currently I see this for .flv and .mkv .

I went into windows settings, Choose default apps by Filetype, and changed default for MP4 to Windows Media Player. I guess this allowed the Preview to bring up a mini WMP window. Unfortunately, it does not work for .MKV files. Also it does not bring up, in preview, the volume control and file data that I usually see in preview. Still working on it.
