Evening all, I have a question concerning folder views that I would appreciate some input on.
I am in the process of looking for an alternative to Directory Opus and XYplorer seems to fit the bill quite nicely. However, there is one feature in DO that I can't quite seem to find a replacement for in XYplorer. Directory Opus had a feature that allowed you to save a custom view for a particular folder eg I could always have c:\downloads (for example) sorted by modified date descending when I go into that folder, or have a particular folder with files and folders mixed together and not sorted seperately.
I might be missing something here, but XYplorer seems to have an all or nothing approach to this. If I go into the current tab menu and pick the options I need, it goes and applies itself to all open tabs which is not what I want. Sorting files and folders apart is the main culprit here. Is there a way of restricting a particular folder to a particular view every time instead of having to do it manually and XYplorer apply it to all open tabs?
Custom folder views?

Hi, and welcome to the world of XY!
This topic has come up at various times, with most recent being at http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?t=1948
so if you'd be so kind as to read that thread, and see what you think, ok?
It seems you're not the only one who'd benefit from this setup...

Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

My apologies, I guess I missed that on my initial glance through the forums. It appears that the demand is out there, but people have different ideas on how they would like to see it implemented and the developer himself doesn't seem to have any plans for it in the short-term future. Whilst I hesitate to use the term "dealbreaker", the lack of folder specific settings does make me reluctant to make the switch, which is a shame because XYplorer is otherwise an excellent program and has so far been the best of the various file management programs I have tried out.j_c_hallgren wrote:Hi, and welcome to the world of XY!

I might just make the switch anyway in the hopes that such a feature gets added in the not too distant future, who knows

That's ok, and no need to apologize since you're brand new here...at least you looked to see, which was good! BTW, here's other prior threads on same subject:Reignfire wrote:My apologies, I guess I missed that on my initial glance through the forums. But I'm confused now by something you said originally...as each tab has a number of settings that apply only to that tab, such as sort column...but I'll agree that "sort folders apart" is a global setting, so maybe if that were made tab specific, would that help enough for now? Just a thought...
For now, maybe if you used certain tabs for certain folders, that might also help, since some settings would thus stay as you wish...

It would certainly alleviate one of the main issues, at least temporarily. I had initially been under the impression that since the other sort options were tab specific then that one would have been too, so I was a little surprised to discover that this was not the case. Switching the option on and off on a regular basis was starting to get a little long in the tooth.j_c_hallgren wrote:That's ok, and no need to apologize since you're brand new here...at least you looked to see, which was good! To that end, I already had XYplorer set to restore any tabs that were open previously on startup although this means always leaving that particular tab open, and so at times I wind up with more tabs open than I might want/need to be dealing with at a given time *takes a deep breath*For now, maybe if you used certain tabs for certain folders, that might also help, since some settings would thus stay as you wish...
Since Custom Folder Views really would be handy and also Don seems to like the idea, I'm quite sure that the feature will be implemented in the near future.
Now Scripting and Undo are the top priorities but after that everything is possible.
So you can't make anything wrong with a Lifetime License: You are able to use the best File Manager out there and know that it even will become better!

One little thing: I like that "Custom Folder Views" and it's not difficult to do, so I'll sqeeze it in before Undo (which is difficult...
I'm a bit surprised about the "sort folder apart" wish... looks like I have to let you customize the custom views...

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Given that information, this is one of the happiest days in my life. Well... not exactly; but definitely one of the happiest days i had with filemanagers!admin wrote:One little thing: I like that "Custom Folder Views" and it's not difficult to do, so I'll sqeeze it in before Undo (which is difficult...).
