Live Filter Box - won't accept full stop character?
Hi,
Very small thing here, but I have 'Enable type ahead find' and 'Redirect typing to Live Filter Box' checked.
If I type ahead find (i.e. the list view has focus) I get inconsistent behaviour:
- If I type ahead ".rc" I only get "rc" in the Live Filter Box
- If I type ahead "*.rc" then that's what I get
I'm not sure why there should be this inconsistency. Not having to switch focus to the Live Filter Box is nice.
Secondly, and this probably applies generally, I've never understood how to filter for, say, "*.rc" and not get results like "file.rc.bak".
As I said at the start, totally not a show-stopper but to be perfectly honest, I only noticed the second behaviour (i.e. "*.rc" works) while I was writing this post. Before that, I just thought it was an oversight that, let's be honest, is workable around!
Pete

Works here.
Are you maybe using the dot as a keyboard shortcut?

Ah yes, you're quite right! Not me as far as I know though - presumably the dot as a keyboard shortcut for 'next' in type ahead is a default? Anyway, removing the keyboard shortcut fully fixes it, many thanks!admin wrote:Works here.

Any insight into avoiding ".rc" returning files like "file.rc.bak"?
Thanks again!

Might be it was a default in previous versions. Not anymore.
If there are no wildcards, then they are auto-added: *.rc*petersboulton wrote:Any insight into avoiding ".rc" returning files like "file.rc.bak"?

Re: Live Filter Box - won't accept full stop character?
OK, so how does one stop them being auto-added? I mean, surely it's reasonable to want to filter on "*.rc" without getting "*.rc*"? To be clear, why doesn't "*.rc" omit "*.rc.bak" and "*.rc.*" include "*.rc.bak"? Is Xyplorer trying to be too helpful (whilst not helping in my case) by auto-adding the '*' at the beginning and end? Could we switch auto-add off or something?admin wrote:If there are no wildcards, then they are auto-added: *.rc*petersboulton wrote:Any insight into avoiding ".rc" returning files like "file.rc.bak"?

Re: Live Filter Box - won't accept full stop character?
Sort of, yes. But if I type ahead "*.rc" I get ".rc" auto-entered in the Live Filter Box and "*.rc.bak" etc. in the filtered list.admin wrote:"*.rc" does omit "*.rc.bak"
If I enter "*.rc" in the Live Filter Box I get the desired result - i.e. no "*.rc.bak".
It's great that type ahead in the list also adds what you typed to the live filter box. I just think the current behaviour is inconsistent because some characters you type in type ahead don't make it to the Live Filter Box, and I can't see why they shouldn't(e.g. '*'). Surely that would be a more consistent implementation - i.e. if you choose to set "Redirect typing to Live Filter Box" then all the characters should be redirected, not just some of them!

Not here. Another keyboard shortcut?petersboulton wrote:But if I type ahead "*.rc" I get ".rc" auto-entered in the Live Filter Box and "*.rc.bak" etc. in the filtered list.

Nope. The '*' on the numeric keyboard is not captured in this functionality. The '*' above the '8' key (UK keyboard) is captured.admin wrote:Not here. Or rather:
- Numeric keyboard '*' is NOT captured in type-ahead, BUT
- Numeric keyboard '*' IS captured when typing into Live Filter Box
Can't see why there should be this inconsistency, can you?

Interesting! Never crossed my mind to fetch this wildcard from the numeric block. I'll see what I can do...

Thank you! That would be superb.admin wrote:Interesting! Never crossed my mind to fetch this wildcard from the numeric block. I'll see what I can do...
Apologies for taking rather long to get to the point! There was one, but not the one I started with.

Re: Live Filter Box - won't accept full stop character?
Turns out the key is assigned as keyboard shortcut:
Miscellaneous / Tree / Fully Expand #1011 Numpad Multiply
If you remove it the key will work as you expected it.
OTOH, I was surprised that this key (which only affects the Tree) works while the focus is in the List. I think I will change this. If I do then you don't have to do anything, all will work in the next beta.

Great, that's fantastic, thank you!admin wrote:Turns out the key is assigned as keyboard shortcut:

(In the meantime I changed #1011 to use Shift and NumPad Multiply. But I think you're right - the shortcut key only needs to work in the tree so capturing it for the Live Filter Box when the list has focus makes the best sense.)
