Need a Little Help with Character Sets

Is there a non-system-wide way of easily dealing with something like: Renée?

From a script I get: "Renée".

(I kind of would have expected " é " for the " é ".)

I know so little about this it's a bit demoralizing. I'd like to keep the diacritical mark if I could - or at least change it easily to an "e". I assume there's a fairly obvious answer out there somewhere, I'm just not sure where to look.

If there's a good discussion of this in here that I missed, I'd appreciate a heads up.

Not sure what you mean when you say "from a script i get..." Are you reading in a file, or is it a runret? show the offending script line, for further help.

Anyway you can remove diacritics like this if it helps:

I've tried both from runret via mediainfo and things like: $artist = property("*Album_artist", $childP); though I'm moving away from mediainfo slowly for as many properties as I can. It's what I was used to.

This also includes native tags like: property("#tag.title", <curitem>);

Except, of course, when it works fine :S Just came up with "Saint-Saëns" properly.

Which makes me think that only the #tags translate the character set properly?

If it were coming from a runret, is there any way of converting the values around?
