Open new tab using Hotlist entry?

Post by j_c_hallgren »

Ok, so even though I seem to know a fair amount about XY, I'll be first to say I'm not sure if this can already be done or not, and if so, how...

I'd like to be able to open a new tab and point it directly to a folder (in one step) that is in my Hotlist using the mouse & clicking...is this possible now?

If not, it's something that I've had a need for more than once recently.

And the "Go to/Hotlist" only applies to an existing tab, but doesn't have a way to create/open it also.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Is it not the case that one opens the Hotlist and left click selected item which then opens a new tab with the item address?

Yes I realised the mix-up in my post as I hit the submit - sorry about that!!

Regarding your following reply which made it clearer that you need a new tab I just can't see the value of a specific action when this can be accomplished by effectively 'over-writing' a current tab (assuming) you are happy to use such a tab. I find, more often than not, I have a 'spare' tab trailing waiting for deletion and so this comes in for re-use if a Hotlist item is appropriate.

Graham: Thanks for fixing above post!

When one left-clicks on a hotlist entry, the current tab is redirected to that folder...when one right-clicks on hotlist entry, nothing happens...if this right-click is able to be trapped, this might be a good way to open new tab at same time.

Maybe I did not get it, but: hold Shift while clicking! (It's even a TOTD)

Ok...but Shift requires use of 'real' keyboard...and as much as I tend to not use right-clicks with touchpad setup, it would seem to be more convenient while on Hotlist/History to right-click to do same as Shift + left-click, unless there is some other great usage planned for this or it can't be done.

And... I've most commonly used Shift to open new tabs from List/Tree only so didn't think about that applying to Hotlist.
