Adress bar on top of pane tabs

Post by xyply »

Instead of a single address bar on top of the folder view I wish I could have an address bar on top of the tab row of each pane.
I do work in dual pane mode and if I want to change to another path I think it is much easier if I could enter it close to where I am in the pane.
Right now I need to move mouse and focus far away from the pane where I do most of my file operations.

The address bar has a lot more functions than just displaying / entering a path in it so
it doesn't make much sense, to duplicate it just for the sole purpose to enter one.

You need to enter something in it. Use a keyboard shortcut to access it. By default
CTRL + ALT + A or ALT + D. Leave the mouse in it's current position...

I still think it is not very ergonomic to have the address bar so far away from the panes, which are the place where most of the actions are done .
I understand that the address bar serves other purposes too and the ALT-D is a good way to edit it.
It would be nicer though if the edit could take place visually close to the pane.

Thus as an idea I suggest to make the TAB headers editable like with a file rename.
Would that be possible?

Mh, do you mean: Right click on a tab, context menu: Rename Tab...?

Yes, that's what I mean.
Even better if it also would allow renaming from just a longer left click like I can do on regular files and directories.

You know that this entry does already exist, right?

Er.. if I had known that I wouldn't have asked.
Now that you pointed me to it I found the "relocate tab" right click entry which I had previously overlooked.

Is there also a setting which allows relocating with just a longer left click like I can do on a file?

IMO renaming tabs is not that common. I reserve the long left click rather for something else. Long left clicks will become more important with the rise of touch screens w/o a mouse.
