This may not be a wish but I get lost trying to post my question elsewhere.
Hello,
I have added docx and doc to the list of text preview (configuration) but only get preview of the data of the text in the preview pane not
plain text.
How to display a readable plain text in the preview please?
Thank you

XYplorer use windows's preview handler, you need to install a Word preview handler which can render text-only.

Thank you.
But how do I install that Word Text handler in XYPlorer?
I was using PowerDesk9 Pro that let me have preview of all sort of formats but unfortunately it no longer works on W10.
Thank you.

Are you talking about the preview tab in the info panel?
If yes, then uncheck *.doc(x) in the configuration -> previewed formats -> text files
and check it in -> web & office files
it should display the word document now in a kind of word-embedded-view.
disadvantage: slow
how to display only plain text of a word doc in XY as preview I do not know.

Hello,
I am talking about the preview tab shown on the fith icon (from right).
I've uncheck in the text configuration and checked in the web configuration.
I got three printscreens attached to make the point.
Thank you.

Ok, normally this is Floating Preview.
But, if the file is not supported by FP (which may depend on the viewpoint - my docx files stay in FP and do so in beautiful black) then it automatically opens in Quick File View.
I don't think Quick File View supports "decoding" of word files.
In case you find a way of displaying thumbs for your word files then you could view these in the floating preview.
But thumbs of MS Word files in XY will NOT work if you have MS Office 64 bit installed.
Otherwise it does depend on what other software you have installed and there is no guarantee. Trial and error.
This is one of XY's big weaknesses: Anything that potentially touches 64 bit, like thumbs, iFilter, ... and even if it may work, it does NOT do so out of the box.

Thank you for your help but I have set the Word Documents to be displayed in thumbnails with the same results.
This is very frustrating since the developer doesn't answer the request for support.
This is a typical example of poor customer service.
My MS office is 32bit although my computer is 64.
Thank you anyway.

The developer is on vacation right now. (Its already the 3rd week I think, so he should be back soon if things are like normal.)
As it seems to be a one-man show there is nobody else to give official suport right now.
But yes, the customer service has its ups and downs.

Let me rethink that...
Maybe MS Office always installs the 64-bit version of iFilters and shell-stuff on a 64 bit OS (regardless of the bitness of Office itself).
I think that was it. (Searching the forum will also give info about it.) So its partly MS and partly XY to blame.

This is W10.
Just click on "View" and choose Thumbnails.

Floating Preview and
Full Screen Preview only show previews for anything for which XY can show thumbnails. Your list pane is in a thumbnail mode and XY is not showing contents for the docx which means those previews will not work for it.
It may be possible by installing a third-party program to get this to work but I don't know for sure.
Quick File View does not preview the contents for non-binary files (a docx is a zip file and thus binary). In that case it shows the raw hex view.
Word documents can be previewed in the
Preview Pane of the
Information Panel or the extracted text can be shown using
Mouse Down Blow Up:

EDIT: Also, there are some big improvements planned for XYplorer's preview system this year. The developer is taking a small break (hence the slowness in responding to e-mail) but when he returns updates will resume.

Thank you very much for your input. I'll try that out and will get back to you after acquiring some experience.

How more individual support can get?

I've tried as you did and the results are not as what you get.
The information pane shows the codes as well as the floating preview turn to Qyuick File View.
Also I do not understand what exactly is Mouse down or Mouse up. What exactly and actually the moves to perform such actions?
There is a lot of Mouse down and mouse up in the help file but what they are and how to perform are no where to be seen.
Thank you.
