What's the difference between: "!a OR b" and ":!a OR b"?
XY interpret the former as "Standard" mode, the latter "Boolean" mode.

Yes, in Find Files. In Quick Search both will be recognized as Boolean due to smart boolean detect.

When in doubt about the logic of your search pattern, simply do this after the search:
