Can I have an instance of XY for my recipes and another for my ebooks. Each has a seperate group of tabs.
How can I do this? Total newbie but enjoying the XY experience. Always wanted a windows explorer with tabs.

When I go to Configuration - Tabs there is no "Auto-save tabsets on switch"
Is that only for the paid version? Mine is free

Even in the free version you should be able to copy your whole XY folder and change the settings in either one of thus created instances independent of the other one. But then you have to remember to make all the general changes in settings to both of them since they don't share any settings anymore.
Did you try to use dual pane mode for this?
You could set up all the tabs needed for your recipes in one pane and the ones for your ebooks in the other and then just switch from one pane to the other in single pane mode...
