Quick File View (html): How to see raw html or rendered?

Post by Jerry »

1) When go into QFV on a html file, I get a blank screen and a message "No preview available". Is rendering supposed to work and if so, what could be wrong? I tried ticking off the htm and html options in Previewed Formats, but no change. (This has been a longstanding issue for me, not recent.)

2) In any case, for QFV, I usually just want to see the raw html code of the file, not a rendered version (and not the current blank screen). How do I make that possible? I know I can now see the raw html in MDBU, but I want it in QFV.

3) Assuming the above have remedies, it would be nice to have a menu item or button to send the html file, whether it's currently rendered or viewed in raw html form, to the default browser. I don't expect XYplorer to fully render all html files.

1) I assume you mean Floating Preview? It will work if you get thumbnails for HTML.
2) This works here. :?
3) Use Info Panel/Preview for this.

Sorry for this confusing post. I was conflating things. Let me start over:

I use the middle-mouse button to quickly view a file, whatever the file or format. And I like having this one way to quickly view anything. When I middle-mouse click on a html file, I want to see the raw html, in the normal QFV window, just as it occurs if I pressed the QFV toolbar button, but currently, the floating preview blank screen comes up instead. Is there anyway to make the middle-mouse button always go into QFV for html? Couldn't locate where middle-mouse on files in list view is configured.

Ideally I'd like middle-mouse to go into QFV for PDFs and Office files also -- basically anything EXCEPT images and zips. On my system, the PDF and Office preview is too slow starting up to be of use. I prefer to just double-click and launch the associated apps instead.

1) OK, understood. It will work in the next version if you tick HTM/HTML in Configuration | Previewed Formats | Category | Text Files

2) PDF/DOCs in QFV? You mean to see the extracted text, right?

Yes, extracted text would be best for PDFs and office files.
Thank you.

That's currently not possible. Would need a major rewrite.

Then just the binary view would be fine, if only to avoid the delay when I accidentally middle-click on pdf or office files.

Currently not possible. One day there will be a revision of how all this is configured.

I'd welcome any kind of side-stacking, or ideally, free placement of every bar anywhere, the TB next to the menu, or between the two panes. Essentially the same way MS Office once allowed their TB-positioning before the ribbon came around.
