Video Preview

Post by IHipschman »

There are video preview settings under Tools > Configuration > Preview, but I am unable to get any video files to play. I have tried both .mov and .mp4 files without success. Does XYplorer preview videos?

Thanks,
Ivan

Can you play with Windows Media Player?
Hint: .mov is propretary format from Apple, not bundled with Windows, so you need to install Codec Pack to play it (i.e: K-Lite Mega Codec Pack)

I am working with a new PC with Windows 8.1 and admit I am struggling with it a bit. If I double click on either a .mov file or an .mp4 it plays in a full screen app and I'm not sure how to tell what program is playing it. I'm aware that I might need a codec to play a .mov in Windows Media Player, but never bothered in the past because I just installed QuickTime instead. But my question is whether these (and other video formats) will play in the XYplorer preview.

Yes they will with the right codecs installed.
Binocular's question pointed in the direction of the following rule of thumbs:
"If you can play it in Windows Media Player than XY can do it too"

As IHipschman installed QuickTime => codec for .mov has been installed (bundled inside QuickTime) => Windows and XYplorer should be able to handle .mov files (XY has no internal player at all, it rely totally on Windows). But it still not work? Maybe due to IHipschman use Windows/QuickTime 64 bits (while XY is 32bits)? I have no 64bits here to test, so cannot confirm
