How do updates work?

I bought xy a few weeks back, and now note I'm a version or two behind. How do updates work? If I update, will I lose my settings? I use xy on 2 laptops. How do I install xy updates on the laptop that never hooks to the net?

Personally, I have never used the installer. I just extract from the no-install package.
Basically with each official release you should only need to replace these files:
TipOfTheDay.htm
XYcopy.exe
XYplorer.chm
XYplorer.exe
As long as you touch nothing in the Data directory, specifically the XYplorer.ini, your settings will persist.
ALWAYS make a backup, just in case.

A version or two? If you're comfortable using beta vers (which are quite stable 99.9% of the time), then you'd be quite a few vers behind in a few weeks here! It's sometimes hard to keep up to date with the speed that Don works at!

You can automate the process with this script by the way,
