Firefox add-on Locationbar² has some elegant mouse control refinements for breadcrumbs, worth considering.
--------------------
Locationbar² Preferences
Click selects all
Double-click selects all
Margin between segments
Linkification
Pressing Ctrl/Meta/Shift or moving the mouse over the favicon allows to click yje linkified segments.
Also enable linkification when moving the mouse over Location bar's edge
on top / on bottom
Breadcrumb for...
the host / each segment
---------------------
"Moving the mouse over Location bar's edge"
Whether location bar is "linkified" depends on whether you move mouse directly to it or go a little bit above it and sweep back down. It only requires extra movement of a few pixels (unlike mouse gesture software) and is quite smooth.

Don't be put off by the last two reviews. It works fine on Win7.
---------------------
But a simpler option to have the address bar default be breadcrumbs but switch to old-style on right-click would also work with me.

QT Breadcrumbs Address Bar also have that function and it's really useful.
Any part of the address is divided to breadcrumbs and every one of them have its own drop down menu so you can go to any directory in the current drive(it also has the ability to display hidden\system folders without enabling the "show hidden\system folders" option)
And the first drop-down menu shows the desktop folders.
FeatureCreep you may also look at this

The ability to show all of the "about: " pages is really useful

Good tip vsub, Thanks.
'Smart location' is better than Locationbar2. I'm using it now.
Much better for selecting/editing parts of URL string and a better model for XY.

A simple solution:
Address bar stay the same as it now but when you hold down Ctrl and hover over each segment of the path
(i.e: over "Users" while the AB is "C:\Users\NNguyen11\Downloads\Documents\")
the word "Users" will be underlined and bold. Left click will bring you to "C:\Users" (Ctrl is still down now).

i same think address-bar should transform. my concept would be:
for mouse = left-click still takes AB to edit, while right-click(in usuall AB/no editing in process) would instantly act as breadcrumb activator
for keyboard = some shortkey to get breadcrumb-mode and arrows to navigate

While waiting for Don to complete his priority list, I made another clickable breadcrumb here:

Please help to enhance my code.

Hi,
please find attached a pic of one more breadcrumb version which I liked a lot (from my previous file manager Ac Browser Plus - now defunct).
One can use the clickable breadcrumbs there to navigate almost the entire file tree e.g by clicking on the divider at "1".
BTW, how can I make use of binoculars script? Upon loading it always creates a clickable breadcrumb bar in an extra window. Is this how it is supposed to be?
Thanks in advance,
Lutz

Don, i just discovered XYplorer a few weeks ago, and i think it is maybe the best FileManager i ever used (and i tried alot). It is clearly structured (sadly many programmers are weak in UI matters). It has (nearly) every feature for which i would have to use several different FMs before

Catalog is an absolute killer-feature for example!
Missing breadcrumb is the only thing keeping me from changing FM and buying XYplorer! I am so glad that Don plans to implement this!
I vote for an optional breadcrumb (like Don's first Screenshot) because:
a) it would increase clarity, EVEN without clicking functionality. During testing XY i repeatedly changed pane just to see what path the inactive pane is. And even then the adress-bar is located on the 'wrong' side of the window 50% of the time

.
b) with clicking behaviour you can jump so quickly between folders (OK, i am a heavy-mouse-user

)
The day XY gets this feature i am going to buy a license, promise!!
Thanks Don, for a great piece of software, already!

Hi elef,
My script opens breadcrumb in new window (sadly so).
The screen shot from AC Browser Plus is quite a nice idea. Hope that Don see this picture!

Thanks, I have seen this thing before.

Don did not say that. What he said (here

No worries, it will come. And "Live Filter for List" will come as well. Both are medium-sized features that will take about one or two months to gain perfection. I'm not sure yet which one I'll make first.

However, the possibility of Live Filtering is given know as well by the address bar. Use the AutoCompletePathABarFiles=1, untick the "Select all on focus by mouse" option, click on the address bar, start typing letters and after selecting a file, press Ctrl-Enter. Voilá.
