I work with tabs with Locked Home Zone. What if the BC would show the path relatively to that folder? (or should be expandable and collapsable, maybe by clicking on the BC icon?) This would be a space saver.
Or would you indicate somehow visually, that that part of the BC path is locked?

These are just ideas which you may pick up if you come to like.

hello all,

these are some wishes for breadcrumbs, since breadcrumbs bar can replace the address bar for navigation , some users will likely hide the address bar or use the address bar & toolbar layout, i wish breadcrumbs bar's location can be moved on top of the tabs bar

Original Layout
[Address Bar]
[Tabs Bar]
[Breadcrumbs Bar]

Custom Layout
[Address Bar]
[Breadcrumbs Bar]
[Tabs Bar]

and my last wish is keyboard navigation support for breadcrumbs,

the breadcrumbs bar currently can only use up and down keys, other parts supports mouse navigation only, the breadcrumbs bar is perfect and should not be altered to support keyboard navigation.

the breadcrumbs keyboard navigation support should come from the keyboard shortcut
#525 Go | Breadcrumb... (Ctrl+Backspace)

the current state of the keyboard shortcut #525 is not good like the breadcrumb bar, i wish it would support path exploration like the breadcrumb bar and using keyboard keys only you can navigate the world of data.

i already asked this before but hoping Don to reconsider :)

merci!

In a later stage the BC will be combined with the AB.

BC is currently a mouse interface mainly. I know that the Win7 Explorer BC allows for keyboard control. Maybe I can add that later...

I like the current way of working. BC and AB have different purposes. BC is only for easy mouse navigation between folders, AB has a lot of interesting function (navigation, quick search, run a command and so forth). If I want to navigate by key, I simply use 6KN, it is perfect for doing so. Additionally, the placement of AB and BC is not just a coincidence (two BC bars under the tabs, and one AB, in a center position on the upper part of the screen). It mirrors the funcionality also.
I have two concerns about combining those:
1. Function loss: a meaningful AB and BC combination can cause that some functions won't be accessible by the new bar.
2. Simplicity loss: if every pieces of advantage are covered, the usage won't be straightforward enough.

Edit: is it only me who feels the current structure perfect? I would prefer to improve AB and BC separately.

I totally agree with this!

I should have said: in a later stage I might add the option to have the Address Bar in an optional BC mode (like Win7 Explorer).

No you are not!!!

Please do NOT combine them...
It is very useful to be able to see a seperate BC in EACH pane.

Just thought of something. What if we're able to drag stuff onto those individual folders in the breadcrumbs? For example, you're in some nested folders at:

Code: Select all

C:\Users\User\Documents\Photos\Space\ISS\Overview\
and you need to drag another folder that belong in the root Photos folder. You can simply select them and drag them onto Photos on the breadcrumbs.

Anybody for (optional) nav buttons in the BC? Like back/forward/up/down/root? If yes, where: left or right?

Position: left. It's the standard, I can't name a single software/interface which has nav button on the right.

Would I use it: I don't think so. I already have nav buttons on the mouse and the keyboard. Going up is a matter of double click on white space or simply clicking the left crumb of the BC
