In the making...

Let's see whether the pressure is still high enough when I'm done with the above...

Seems you're done, so I just thought I'll put back some pressure on you ;)

Pressure received. But what's the state-of-the-wish? Have a per-tab locked flag, and if locked then automatically open a clicked tree node in new (foreground) tab?

That's it. But the best would be that the tab's location couldn't be changed in any way when locked (aka also clicking on a search results if it's a folder, ...)

You were right, I don't like the tab gun either, especially when you click on a location that takes a couple of seconds to open, you don't know what's happening.
And coming back to my earlier "anchor"-symbol-idea, I still think it would be nice to see, that a tab is locked with its symbol.

Code: Select all

+++ Browsing tabs: added the ability to "lock tabs" (find the new
command/state in the tabs' context menu). A locked tab will never
leave its current location but instead open a new tab
automatically. Further you cannot accidentally close a locked tab
      because you'll be warned.
I was wondering why this should work for browsing tabs only - it doesn't, works for SR tabs as well, great!

Agreed, it should be visible. But an anchor symbol? Is ugly and takes space. Why not simply another (configurable! ) caption color?

Sure. This is just a terminological confusion. I say "browsing tabs" in contrast to "info panel tabs"; "browsing tabs" can be either "browsing tabs proper" or "finding tabs"... well well...

if by caption you mean the full set, text & background, then it works for me... :)

But, that would have one limitation though, we can't tell if the active tab is locked or not. Can't you add a litlle lock in a corner of the tab's icon. Wouldn't take space, and it doesn't have to be ugly ;)

OK, color was not a good idea. Now show me a non-ugly lock (no alpha-blending).

Other idea: caption underlined?

Ok, so yeah it's not so easy to get something good. So you could use a lock icon (Image) aligned on the right of the tab (or, instead of the tab's icon).

I'd rather have a text color, that would be used wether or not the tab is active, when it's locked. So for example all tabs with caption's text written in red are locked.

Both of your ideas are not good enough for me.
For the moment I have no better one either.
Time will show the way...

Well, but in the meanwhile could you add something to differ locked tabs from unlocked ones, would it be color, paddlock icon, font, frame, undeline or something else - only as a temporary solution till you find The Best Idea.
