If you do this, you get a cannot preview message (e.g. for "exe" under office formats) while .exe works fine if previewed directly
in QVP and other formats, e.g. .zip are previewed correctly through QVP in XY

Ok, but here I'm lost - how to use the QVP preview handler?
In case of 7Z and RAR - preview if by QVP... when I entered extension.
If is possible to implement QVP to previews, can be possible preview DLL of one program?
It's program for preview Commodore 8-bit computers disk images, Explorer uses that DLL
Attached is DLL written above.

Yes, I have to change something to make EXE work. Next version...
However, JAR is another case. I don't understand why it does not work.

v0301
I still get a "Cannot preview." message when trying to preview a .exe in a fresh instance (and exe was added to the office category...)
Wouldn't it make more sense to add an additional category, e.g. "Override" or something like that
where we could add file extensions and a clsid for the preview handler that automatically overrides
what XY does?

And you can preview EXE in QVP?

OK, I'll install QVP and look into it.
And thanks for the "override" idea -- I'll think about it.

If I understand Override idea, it means that there can be linked with preview individual preview handler, yes?
If yes, it can be great, but if it needs CLSID instead DLL - how to find CLSID? I don't know about much many things.

OK, installed QVP trial version (puuh, this app looks like it hasn't been updated for 20 years).
1) EXE preview did not work because EXE extension is not registered with the QVP preview handler. You can see that in shexview.exe. You can as well find out in XY by this line: text get("previewhandler", "exe");
2) I added a tweak (for now, can do something better later) to specify a "fallback" preview handler GUID. This will catch the EXE case (and many other) and throw the specified GUID onto it. For QVP this GUID is {8B1E92F5-AC8E-4DAB-9804-3C01AA112F17}. So you tweak like this:
Code: Select all
CustomPreviewHandlerFallback={8B1E92F5-AC8E-4DAB-9804-3C01AA112F17}
Works nicely (though I have to click a button in a popup window first, probably because I'm on trial version). See attached image (that's an EXE, I just obfuscated the name).
3) BTW, QVP does not seem to integrate with Explorer.

Ui,
that's a fine improvement! .exe and e.g. .jar work fine after the tweak.
Btw, the registered version of QVP doesn't require you to click on a button
I hope you add a user / manual / override category later in the refinement process
Keeping track of what extensions you've added is much! easier and less error prone
(where the hell should I put an extension, is it text, office, etc...)

Yes, that's it (v17.90.0302).
1) Set this tweak (how to tweak:
https://www.xyplorer.com/faq-topic.php?id=tweak):
Code: Select all
CustomPreviewHandlerFallback={8B1E92F5-AC8E-4DAB-9804-3C01AA112F17}
2) Add EXE to the previewed formats in category "Office Files".
I will soon make all this more user-friendly.
