Are you using 125% screen resolution?

That's it. The icons do look a bit better (and all about same size at "Smaller - 100%", so I guess that's my and my old eye's problem.

OTOH, here is an image of some of the existing icons with TPT on but the TPT outline around the icons removed. I think this looks better and less distracting (at both 100% and 125%).

You did have the sense not to:

 so that's good  Sheesh--what were they smoking?

Well, not bad. A lighter snake style... I might check that later...

Well, I for one, don't like that TPT mockup, at all.
The line isn't continuous, but (I think) the main idea of TPT is to trace up to root with least attention.
My two cents.

Jeff Bellune wrote:So how do I get the new look? I've installed 14.40.004 and I don't get the new flat look, I still have control borders and my tree expansion icons are still + signs instead of triangles.

Thanks,
Jeff

EDIT: I assumed that because the new flat look was the "default UI in Windows 8" that the style would appear automatically. Apparently not. It seems I have to go in to the Configuration settings and create it piece by piece. Further, it seems the only way to get the triangles is to tweak the .ini file. Isn't there a "big button" way to save or apply a theme that accounts for all the bits and pieces?
Ctrl Right-Click on a Plus or Minus sign brings up a selection menu.

How about the TPT outline does not g around the icons like sfwood suggested BUT the very last icon that it goes around (also indicating the current location), will have the TPT outlining the icon? That way, it's not distracting yet at the same time, it's very easy to spot where you are in the tree by just finding the icon that has the TPT outline.

Excactly my vision. I will try that as an optional alternative tomorrow...

Right, that's also a nice alternative. It just wouldn't feel right to me if the tracing line breaks up completely anywhere.

Been staring at this too much.. Occurs to me to wonder, why is TPT drawn as it is rather than follow the logic of the dotted black connector lines? i.e. (and ignoring absence of icon highlights) why drawn as on left and not as on right. Just for visual clarity, I'm guessing? Mostly curious.

And, for more argument fun ;-), here is TPT still w/ no icons but 5px wide not 3px. Threw in a couple of terminators as has been mentioned.

Because it should pass only nodes that are part of the path, not any siblings.

OK, I made a version of TPT where only the head of the snake is drawn as a big square. Looks okay. Might be even good. Certainly lighter on the eye.

Now, how should I call this (or the opposite of it) in configuration? "Mark components"?

BTW, I will rename "Wide" to "Wide trace" (fixed a bug there too today).

"Mark nodes" or "Outline TPT Nodes"? (If I got the concept right)
