Wouldn't one dot look as if it were a (real) dot :?:

Sure. But a dot as last character in a path name is rather rare.

And not even possible.

I was talking to fast: one-dot ellipsis is not possible technically (easily).

I've been trying to deal with this issue the past several weeks. I just can't do it. I find the program virtually unusable with the tab situation the way it is. I don't mean that in an angry way or anything, I like the program and the author quite a bit. It's just that I have DOpus also (portable included), so having that as an alternative makes me less tolerant. I really would like to include XYplorer in my workflow because it does some things better than Dopus, and it's faster also. But when I'm doing a lot of quick things with my file explorer, it's tough to pause and try to figure out which tab is what.

Again, I think Dopus' solution is the best I've come across and I would highly recommend mimicking that.

Of course, I am sensitive and understanding of the author's comment below:

But I feel this is a somewhat critical issue, but maybe it's just me? I like to emphasize examples like this when pointing out the difference between what Apple does and what a company like Sony does. Apple may suck as far as flexibility and power (which we pc users love) but they always nail the little interface elements. Something like this tab issue is one of those little things.

And of course, I'd be willing to help in any capacity to help speed this up, if anyone was willing.

I can see your point, but I think this has also to do with habit and work style that you automatically aquire when working a longer time with one app. I myself obviously work with XY for many years now and never found your issue a problem. The same is apparently true for many others of my users because this has not been a big issue here, at least not in the recent years after several devices had been introduced to improve the space usage of tab headers:

1) Declare one tab as Default tab (right-click tab header and you see the option). Check Help for what this does...

2) Rename tabs to short names; lock them to a Home Zone.

3) Enable Configuration | Tabs | Flexible width

4) Enable Configuration | Tabs | Always keep right end of tab bar empty

5) Configuration | Tabs | Tab Captions: select "Folder Only" or "Custom" (e.g.: <drive>: <folder>).

6) If you use Dual Pane do it with horizontal panes

Or tell the Dopus folks to make their app faster.
