I stumbled on something.
I clicked 'Show Junctions' under;
View -> Show Items
Now I see the files but they are Pink.

What is a Junction? This does not exist in v9.00.

This will help you I am sure.

Wonderful, but also shocking because for all I know a Junction is a link to a directory, not to a file.

Can anybody enlighten me, please?

10:28pm here in New Zealand and I am on my Laptop.
I am back using v9.20.
I'll post some screenshots of the directories tomorrow. These might prove interesting for debugging. Sorry that I cannot get these to you now.

Perhaps the utility at
this link can help diagnose? Based on the introduction on that page, reparse points (NTFS's underlying mechanism used for junctions) can point to files as well as folders.

Donald for all intents an purposes, the files shown are correct, now that I have clicked junctions on.
However, exe files show as links.

Other files show as normal.

Any way to remedy this?

I definitely attempt to show
every junction item with a link overlay. I'm rather surprised that some items do not show the overlay and cannot explain it. What does WE Win7 do?
BTW, on your very first XY screenshot in this thread the statusbar says
5/18 items -- here one could have seen immediately (and the statusbar tooltip even says it) what was causing the missing items.

Well, I suppose we have highlighted an area for more thought. Windows Explorer is not showing anything different, it has always shown the files (without any overlays)

It had us both stumped, but next time we will look harder.
What do suggest as a course of action?

I can make the link overlays optional. OK?

Sounds like a plan. I think that that will fix the display issues.

I only wonder what the factory default should be (show or not show). Win7/64 does show link overlays for junctions to folders. I cannot find any junctions to files on my system.

Well my opinion is to show by default, however I have seen posts in the forums arguing against this. That was prior to the files being a problem though.
I can test for you...I am normally running the latest beta version.
Again it's only connecting to the Windows Home Server shared folders where this is a problem.

So Win7 Explorer does not show link overlays for files? (but it does for folders?)

I tried hard to create Junction files under XP and Win7 using Junction 1.05 by Mark Russinovich -- but failed. I also did not find any clear reference that this is possible. Everybody is only speaking of folders, not files.
I won't change anything in XY before I understand what's going on here.
I repeat my question to Pulinski:
So Win7 Explorer does not show link overlays for files? (but it does for folders?)

Just silly questions...
What files do you talk about? A file linked by a junction, or a file in a folder linked by a junction?
Or other way: is a difference between a folder linked by a junction, or by a folder inside a folder linked by a junction?
Could this be start of an idea?

We are talking about items that have the JUNCTION attribute set and are files (DIRECTORY attribute NOT set) or are pointing to files. This (or one of the two) seems to be the case in Pulinski's system. But apparently only in Pulinski's system...
