That fixed it. Just for fun, I changed default back to Acrobat, restarted XY and .pdf files copied while previewed too. However, I think I am going to take this step forward for .pdf mgt and buy a perpetual license for PDF-XC, after it gels OK.

So that 64 bit previewer thing has quite a sting in the tail, the subtleties of its existence I do not understand, but interesting if this insight means the issue is replicable, as that could have consequences.

How tied up it was to my initial issue reporting (which was being distracted by other aspects of the same(?) issue) is a separate q - happy to leave this stuff lie until the TB 64 bit version is given a general release and see if stuff breaks in these irksome nowhere corners!

The TB/64 version does not need a separate 64 bit previewer process, so this kind of trouble will be history.

Within hours of the last post I bought a PDF-XChange Pro licence and completely obliterated Acrobat and some weird Adobe thing from my PC; used Revo Uninstaller Pro to be sure, and still found Adobe dregs in data directories, all gone. Not a single XY crash / winkout ever since. Was it an XY-Adobe thing, or that I was using old software and deserved whatever arcane incompatibilities that threw my way...?

I see my narky little Solidworks 1/3 height previewing issue has persisted through many a 32bit updates of XY, maybe it goes away in 64bit? A pic of a few mins ago; hoping this one can get some attention in the transition:

Having opened WE next to XY, all I need to do is click a different file in XY, see the third-height preview for that one, and click back to the illustrated one and it is now at the same display height and appearance as WE. No other actions needed. Repeatable ad-nauseum.

These previews are cached by File Explorer, and XY reads that cache, that's why XY does it right after FE does it.

Why not try the latest 64-bit version right away?

OK, put the latest 64 bit version on, still same 1/3 height previews of Solidworks files. Will pester more when the initial flood to get the main user base on 64 passes...

Backed everything up (as instructed) and the upgrade was seamless. License came over, no pfaffing about - it just worked. So that's a nice first step...
