You can restart the computer, why couldn't you? At worst, you can push the reset button. It's probably some one-time glitch, that will disappear after restart.

This seems really odd as it's not related to the installer. I would backup all the data on that drive and scan for errors. Try looking at the drives S.M.A.R.T. data as well. If nothing comes up I would try running Memtest and checking the memory.

Unlocker was great but you cannot get a download that works under Win8 AND is free from CRAPWARE bundles.

And a little extra tip: Never ever install anything you downloaded from CNET. They bundle their installers with CRAPWARE. It's a shame that XY is featured on their site. Luckily the XY installer from CNET is ok. They did not dare to touch it.

The crapware installer was one of the reasons I moved to LockHunter.
