Thanks!

BTW, I'm completely happy with 8.1! IMO the first well-designed OS since XP (talking about the looks here, both Metro and Desktop modes).

So, now my system is running and I can finally go back to work. And apart from the biggie Extended Tags there will be a couple of tiny improvements in the light of 8.1.

Question from the times gone: Is there some kind of classic theme or something like that in 8.1? (OK, do not laugh, I am simply asking.)

Not by default any more... Have you looked on deviantart.com to find any alternatives?

Thanks highend! It was a rather theoretical question, since no 8.1 near me for the time being. I'll nevertheless look at deviantart.com.

Win 8.1 experiences:

- Sometimes renaming a folder takes ages.
- Browsing or copying EXE files takes ages.

I assume this is Window Essentials at work? (no time to check, the bugs, the bugs...)

Can anybody on 8.1 confirm the above?

This helps totally. The problem is gone:
XY-SpeedUpListingAndCopyingExecutables (Windows Defender).png
It does NOT fix this issue though:
- Sometimes renaming a folder takes ages.

If I had known you're refering to XYcopying ....

I never encountered issues with speed of renaming. In general, or inside XY only?

It's a bit irregular. It might be related to Auto-Refresh, but then it can also happen (but rarer) without Auto-Refresh in XY. It can also happen in Explorer but apparently only if XY is running AND has Auto-Refresh enabled. When it happens there is a freeze around 10 sec (!) before a folder gets renamed (happens with any way you can rename a folder).

Never seen this on 2012 R2 (which uses the same kernel as in 8.1) regardless if in XY or WE (when XY runs in parallel).
2012 R2 has no Windows Defender by default...

The Windows Themes selection style looks totally misplaced in Win8. It seems to be an atavism from the dreadful Vista/Win7 era. I use XYplorer Classic selection style and it looks perfect in Win8's world.

Me too.

However, for tabs I (have to) use "Windows Themes" as visual style in order to make the tab's background color blend seamlessly into the BC bar.

Yeah! Haven't been in a while (although I might be gone for a while again soon) but you finally got Windows 8!!!

On the other hand, sorry but I think Windows 7 looks better. Well, at least we expect good things from XYplorer now that you will suffer *ahem... learn all about the quirks of Vista+ so we don't have to explain that "In Windows 7, it does not work unlike XP".
