Unfortunately, those boxes are so tiny that it's simply too difficult to quickly target them with the mouse to click into them, so it's preferable to continue to hold down the control key, and to just target the big text field for each thumbnail.
Two questions:
Where do I find that option to get rid of the click boxes? I forgot their name, and cannot find them in the menus.
Would it be possible to make them much bigger, perhaps by option? They would hide a larger part of the thumb then, but it is important to access them quickly, and this means they should be much bigger than they are today.

Not the very same, but you can use the (line) numbers for selection as well.xpxy wrote:Would it be possible to make them much bigger, perhaps by option? F9 (Configuration) > Menus, Mouse, Safety > Mouse > Line Number Selection

Re: Those clickboxes for thumbs selection
Thank you, Filehero, I checked File number selection in the help, and checked the option in Tools-Configuration. But I did not find the setting to show file numbers in list view, so I dropped this, and I would not like to click on tiny file numbers. But thank you so much for your help! I would have followed your solution, had it not been for eil's solution, which is exactly what I need!
Thank you, eil, this is splendid! I put the sticky selection toggle onto a shortkey, so this will spare me LOTS, LOTS, LOTS of pressing down the control key, for thumbs, and in all file lists, and with details, too. This is really the perfect solution, thank you a thousand times!

Yes, I know this sort of feeling being lost.xpxy wrote:But I did not find the setting to show file numbers in list view, ...
That's something I call a Quick Setting which you can find by navigating the menu > Tools > Customize List (Customize Tree above is worth a visit as well, of course).
Have fun.

Re: Those clickboxes for thumbs selection
Filehero, you are right: yes, it's all there, even the line numbering feature. From my experience with this, it is the repartition between "View" and then more special option, that have been put under "Tools" that caused my problem to find them, and I see of course the utility to put them "away" into some configuration section, in order to hold the main menu entries concise. At is as you say, "getting lost".
But even in that part, "Customize Tree", I did not see any option to prevent the tree from horizontal scrolling, wich only occurs when you drag-and-drop, and the horizontal scroll bar being visible, of course.
Which gives me an idea...
