Color filename/row by tag

Post by Kucera »

Help! I must be missing something (again). Would like to highlight the files tagged as "to do", or their row in the list. The attached picture shows the config screen and no color in the file list, where the "to do" tags are. What did I forget to check, where? Or did I misunderstand completely what this is supposed to do?
Thanks and regards Emil

You confused Labels with Tags. The coloring is done with Labels.

sure did... thank you very much.
One of these days, I may even figure out in what way are the two different :-) , so far I could not find an explanation in the help or on the main sites (some of the links in the feature description, like http://www.xyplorer.com/release_7.90.htm#tc ) don't seem to make a distinction.

As an aside, hope it is not too far off topic: Is anyone else Czech out there, who would know if/how the two words, tag vs label, are translated into Czech? The dictionary shows both the same; wonder how a techie would deal with a translation to Czech. Or does XYplorer have a Czech-language interface as well? Guess I would find out there, if there is one.

Anyway, thanks again. This is the most responsive forum, AND Admin that I have ever encountered. Bravo!
Thanks and regards Emil

To me, as I use it, Labels are color codes that may have a simple unique text desc of value and only one per file with them whereas Tags are strictly text values and there may be multiple ones per file.

Agreed! That's why I decided many years ago to do what I could to help promote XY and support it and Don for all his efforts here! It's a great 'community'!
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

All right! That is clear and enough to go on with.
Thanks and regards Emil

Even the Italian language doesn't really make a distinction between Tags and Labels.
Anyway, from the technical point of view, they behave very differently.

You can have more than one tag per file.
But an item can have one label only.

Think of tags as properties (an item, generally speaking, can have multiple properties - being yellow, heavy, soft, ...), and labels as the places they're currently located in (in the non-quantum world, items can be located in one place only at a time).

Clear enough. Another easy distinction is, now, labels can have colors, tags not, I guess. All I have to do is label those files, instead (or in addition) to tagging them.
Thanks!

There is a Czech interface, don't you know? Menu Help | Download Language File... | Czech.

Great, thought there might be, but did not know how to get at it; I won't use it (easier in English) but it will be interesting to see how the things are handled, one day it may come in handy when I have to translate something :)
Thanks and regards Emil
