Visual Filter / Address bar bug??
If I type a visual filter in the address bar (C:\temp\|*.log) and hit Enter I get the correct filter. If I go back up to the address bar and remove the |*.log and hit Enter, the list view still remains filtered. I have to do a CTRL+SHIFT+J to clear the filter.

Yep, and that is totally normal!
when you then type "c:\folder" you're not setting any VF, so the current VF, if any, is left untouched. if you want to unset a VF through the AB (or Goto/Catalog) you have to end your input with |
This will basically means: set the VF to nothing, aka disable any VF set. You can either use d:\folder| to go to that folder and disable any VF, or just enter | to simply disable any VF without changing location.

Exactly, you're not setting any VF...you're in effect saying "I don't want any filter."jacky wrote:when you then type "c:\folder" you're not setting any VF
I don't mean to argue with you guys, but it doesn't seem logical/intuitive to me that if you set the filter by adding |*.log, you can't unset it by removing the |*.log. I don't know....just doesn't make sense to me.

Yeah but it makes sense regarding to how XY and VF works. I mean, if you have a VF set and use AB/Goto to change location, so type "d:\folder" you are not speaking of VF yet the current VF will stay on.JustinF wrote:I don't mean to argue with you guys, but it doesn't seem logical/intuitive to me that if you set the filter by adding |*.log, you can't unset it by removing the |*.log. This is because VF aren't location-related but tab-related, and you can change the tab's location but not its VF state, or the other way around (or both).
While adding |*.log means "and I want this VF on" removing it only means "don't change anything VF-related", that's why you have to use | to then say "and remove any VF set"
Besides, it allows one to use AB/Goto/Catalog items that will change current location but not affect VF, or only affect (set/unset) VF, or do both.
Nope, you're saying "change location to d:\folder" and that's itJustinF wrote:Exactly, you're not setting any VF...you're in effect saying "I don't want any filter."
Basically, here's how it translate:
d:\folder --> change location to d:\folder (don't change VF)
d:\folder|*.log --> change location to d:\folder and set VF to *.log
d:\folder| --> change location to d:\folder and unset any VF
|*.log --> set VF to *.log (don't change location)
| --> unset any VF (don't change location)
