Yes. Very uncommon for keyboard shortcuts, but why I don't know....surrender wrote:I like #2 (as you said easier for newbies) but my vote for #1 because I use ctrl+P a looooot.
btw, is Shift+P possible??
An easier way to copy a selected/focused filename to Find?

Maybe because it could be keyed as part of any user input?admin wrote:Yes. Very uncommon for keyboard shortcuts, but why I don't know....surrender wrote:btw, is Shift+P possible??
Updated: Just realized above theory may be totally bogus..
BTW, in the case where one has a number of files selected in one folder in list: Using Cntl+shift+P as now creates a list of "x" number of identical path entries...and for what use would that be? I can't think of one...Now if that gave me a list of just the actual filenames only, then I can see a use for it...so I'd vote for swapping this shortcut over!

I know the Command Prompt in my context menu is nothing to do with XY, it's one of my many "standard" registry entries that I've been using for years. I was using it to illustrate the difference, and the fact that I think it is a more correct behaviour that the XY Command prompt.jacky wrote:hmm.. not sure what you're talking about here. There is only ONE command in XY, and that is "Open Command Prompt Here (Ctrl+Alt+P)"Gandolf wrote:"Command Prompt" in the context menu ...
Interesting that you can't code Alt+Shift+key to be different from Alt+key. AutoHotkey treats Alt+Shift+key and Alt+key as different key codes, but then it also treats Ctrl+Alt+key as different from AltGr+key.admin wrote:Shift+Alt+* unfortunately is not possible because of the main menu (try e.g. Shift+Alt+F...).
Option (2):
Ctrl+P = Item Name(s)
Ctrl+Shift+P = Item Path/Name(s)
would obviously be my choice.
Item Path is a common requirement for me to open a directory in another application when I don't want to open the file (graphics editor when I want to select files from the directory). Hence a keyboard shortcut would be preferred.

It could be usefull and give different paths when used on search resultsj_c_hallgren wrote:BTW, in the case where one has a number of files selected in one folder in list: Using Cntl+shift+P as now creates a list of "x" number of identical path entries...and for what use would that be? Oh ok. Well I personally think the way XY does it is a more correct behaviorGandolf wrote:I know the Command Prompt in my context menu is nothing to do with XY, it's one of my many "standard" registry entries that I've been using for years. Just a little tip, if you have no selected item on List, Ctrl+P will copy the current path to the clipboardGandolf wrote:Item Path is a common requirement for me to open a directory in another application when I don't want to open the file (graphics editor when I want to select files from the directory). And given that "Copy Path Name" is still available via "Info to Clipboard" contect menu, for those that need that ability, switching shortcut to a function that appears to have more usage within XY itself makes sense, IMO...
Yes, doing the 'Info to Clipboard/Copy Name" could have been used to help my initial problem, but given that it was on context menu, I tend to not use those as much, and thus not recall what options are there.
Glad to have prompted this discussion! It may help make things a bit easier for most all of us...

Although logic favors #2, I vote for #1 because it's more often used, and being shorter, is quicker to key.
