Had a weird thing happen that I assumed was Windows (8.1) but thought worth asking. Let's say I have the following folders:
- Jones
- Jones Today
- Jones Yesterday
- Smith
- [other folders]
I want to combine the Jones folders and absent-mindedly try to create a new one to do that called "Jones." So I get a dialog box telling me it's a duplicate and asking me if I want to combine the existing one with the new one. I don't want to and so click Cancel. Then I click on the Smith folder. The same Jones dialog box comes up, and does repeatedly no matter what other folders I click on. The only way out is to close and reopen XYplorer. Is that Windows or XYplorer (13.50) that won't let go?

Try to press ESC and hold it down. This usually escapes the trap.
