Messing around with network connections in a mixed W7/XP network I screwed my PC. That's not a major problem since I keep a clone on a USB drive.
I decided to wipe the partitions I knew I'd done work on and copy over the live stuff before cloneing back to my live drive.
Any files/folders below System Volume Information weren't copied.
I selected Skip when told I needed to be the administrator to copy that folder.
Am I messing up or is it a bug?

Re: Copy not copying bits
System Volume Information is a protected folder. You can't access it even as admin, unless you use specific low-level software. It's not a bug, it's NTFS design. Btw, that folder doesn't contain useful data (well, it's something about file system integrity, but if I were you I wouldn't care).

Re: Copy not copying bits
I don't care about System Volume Information, and I know its protected, and I realised I explained badly
By below it I do not mean within it. eg there were 59 directories on the D: drive I copied to K: but only ended up with 50. All of the directories listed below (ie alphabetically following it) weren't copied.

Re: Copy not copying bits
You mean after you pressed the "Skip" button the operation was completely aborted? I cannot reproduce this here.

Re: Copy not copying bits
Just checked again and its definitely happening. Yesterday it was copying to a USB drive, today to the second HDD in my PC.
I've (hopefully) attached the directories (ctrl-P from XYPlorer) for the source and targets.
In the PC (Dell Vostro 1700 W7 64 bit) I have two HDDs , one SSD one spinning rust. The main one (SSD) is partitioned into C:, D:, E:, F: the other has a single partition.
What I did was open XYPlorer, navigate to D: over in the right hand pane pressed ctrl-A, ctrl-C, opened a second tab, navigated to Z:, created a new folder (Junk) opened it in the right hand pane and pressed ctrl-V. After about 12 minutes (its copying c11Gb) up came the prompt about skipping System Information Folder. I click skip and it skips the rest of the folders.
If I can do anything to resolve the problem please let me know.

Re: Copy not copying bits
I tried to replicate the issue but did not see any "Skip" button at any stage. Could you please post a screenshot of the interface showing the "Skip" button and of your Custom Copy settings. Thanks.

Re: Copy not copying bits
Ha, this is a shell prompt! You are not even using "Custom Copy". Make a tick at "Use Custom Copy" and we meet again.

Re: Copy not copying bits
First my appologies for not making clear it was a system prompt. I just never thought someone would think it could be anything else
By using custom copy it works properly so I have a work round but shouldn't it do the same when not using custom copy?

Re: Copy not copying bits
My apologies too, I did not even know that the shell has a skip button. I never use the shell for copy jobs.
No. I wrote custom copy exactly because the shell lacks in many ways.roy.lambert wrote:By using custom copy it works properly so I have a work round but shouldn't it do the same when not using custom copy?
