add Search templates button to the Find dialog

Post by calude »

Hi
I had to go to search the manual to find "the Search templates dialog" (wich I remembered having use once or twice a long time ago)...
Could you add a button to load the Search templates dialog directly from the Find files info panel (F3) where it seems to belong.

thanks

Reasonable wish. When I was a new user, I had the same problem. Of course now I press Ctrl+F9 without thinking, but a good place in Find Files could be great for newbies.

Don felt the Find tab was a little too crowded...

Code: Select all

v10.80.0305 - 2012-02-15 21:59
    - Info Panel | Find Files: Removed the "Templates..." button.
Reason: Not enough space, and not really necessary since the
function is always available in menu Edit and by CKS (Ctrl+F9).

ha now I understand why I couldnt find it
with all respect due to Don ....

As a casual user (not in IT) that doesnt remember all shortcuts, all xy tricks, etc... I feel spoiled by this "too crowded"
A newb will use CTRL+F, as in soo many win apps, then miss the template feature for month because of "too crowded"

come on!! some reality check

Hi Calude,
The request you raised suggests you may be new to XY.
Most other file managers on the market cease further develoment, but XY continues to grow rapidly.
Don rarely resists users' requests except when it's extremely "crowded". And often it's the case. XY is an extremely feature rich software.
Most users like myself reply upon XY to manage both business and personal life.
Pressing Ctrl+F9 is a second nature to most XY users.
Sophisticated "Find Files" especially involving regex takes time to construct. We all rely upon the Search Template to "remember" the successful search for routine use.

Hi Calude,

in general I see your point. However I think a user who has decided to buy and use XY has reached a certainl level in practical computer skills. One of those valuable experiences is to try a readup in a manual if there is one.
