I do now - new to 5.40.0016

791/804/254ms from first open.

Speaking of version numbers...
You label the XY version in the beta forums as 5.40.0016, but in the actual XYplorer.exe, it's labelled as 5.40.00.16. So which is right?
Used to update to the latest beta every day. Now I have children instead…

Yeah, XY is seems faster to me, and the Config window shows up faster here, almost instantly! :D

App shown in 1 138 ms (fully loaded in 1 161 ms) ; Config loaded in 44 ms

PS: I am so sad that dbl-click doesn't copy the line to the clipboard, I had to type those numbers by hand !! :P

@lukescammell: Seems it depends where you read it from:
XYplorer.exe, 2 041 344 bytes, 11/11/2006 11:05:28, ver 5.40.0016
And on Version tab it says 5.40.0016 first, then 5.40.00.16. Same goes on the Windows Properties window btw.
The "real" value has to be the official one though, me thinks: 5.40.0016

Both is right: the first is so-called "string file version", the other "fixed file version". Both are embedded in the binary file.

Update: I'm now really :D !!!
I've restarted XY again...the first time into config was 993ms...and now find that my config load times after that are averaging about 275ms, with lowest being about 220, but most in the 260-280 range...just kept doing F9 and ESC to load/cancel config...

So that IS a definite improvement! And having a way to see the timing also helped!

Wish that speedy config had been around earlier this week when trying all the various new color configs!

Just curious...was the solution only due to caching those icons for previewed fmts?
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

220 is still slow. What CPU/MHz you have?

Yes, the difference between first load and all later loads is exactly the gain of caching. So in your case, very surprisingly for me, it was *not* the slow combos but some issue with retrieving those icons. Or maybe just one of them? Who knows...

From my original post (and next post) on this thread  :

Which is much faster than my older laptop using W98SE on a PII 366Mhz!
Yes, I realize it's slow compared to "modern" ones, but it serves my needs thus far...
and they were cheap, as they were off-lease from Dell.
(I wanted my second one to be component compatible to older one in case of failure, like battery packs, CD-ROM bays, etc...thus I was limited in how recent a unit I could get...)

1GHz is not that bad. I have ca. 1.7 GHz. But my config takes only 50 ms to load. So there's another factor. Maybe OS...

You think that's slow, with 5.40.0016 I get the following times:
First load: 2480 / 2495 / 2323
Reload: 1291 / 1306 / 455
F9 / ESC: ... / ... / 81 - 82
...and this on a P4M 2GHz, 1 GB RAM, WXPP.

So what's wrong with my SYS?
Ralph :)

You are some spoiled boys if you think those numbers are posing a real threat to the balance of your harmonic desktop lifes. :P

Tip: If you think 105 ms waiting is a waste of time, why not use it for a 105 ms power-meditation!? Ultimately you are the center of The Zen of File Management!

Who knows? Many background processes, Slow harddisk access time, too small file system cache (that's not the correct term). With me, app start time can vary a lot within minutes on the identical system. It is usually faster when less other apps are open.

Don

I didn't complain about my load times.
If you remember my "slow folder" problem which caused load times of about 30 secs., I'm quite happy with the current values.
Just wanted to let others know, that there are still load times of >1 sec out there.
Ralph :)

Okay. When you said "So what's wrong with my SYS?" it seemed like big worry.
