Color Tabs
Did a quick search and couldn't find any reference to this. I know you can color the tab text, but whta about the tabs themselves?
One of my favourite Firefox extensions is Colorfull Tabs and I think this would work well in XY.
Anyone?

Tab Strip
How about just the 1 or 2 pixel strip across the top of the tabs (that is currently used to highlight the active tab) - a different colour per tab would still be in keeping with the look of XY.
Just a thought.

Here's a link to description of Colorfull Tabs:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1368/
The desc says in part: "Its solution is to simply assign each new tab a color from a fixed list, in sequence. First example, the first tab will be blue, the second is yellow and the third green. The tab remains that color until it is closed"
Also found this while looking for it:
http://labs.mozilla.com/2006/11/chromatabs/
Which says: "Instead of assigning an essentially-random color to a tab when it is opened, a color is derived from the site currently loaded in the tab"
I'd personally like to see the tab color bar just 1 pixel thicker to make it a bit more visible...and having it as fixed different colors as Colorfull might be good for those used to it from FF...the Chromatabs seems overkill...
I rely more on the "open tab background color" to see which is current than the stripe but it still helps locate it, so changing that stripe, via option to various colors wouldn't affect usage negatively.

Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Currently you can colour an individual directory or a whole branch in the tree view, so it would make sense to me for the ability to enable the tab to change to the colour (text and background) of the tree directory it's currently displaying. A highlighted colour would override the boxed colour as it does in the tree...
As an option of course

You know what this made me think of, automatically using the Tree's boxed branch color (if any); either on that tab bar thing, or as background color for other tabs (ie not the active one)j_c_hallgren wrote:Also found this while looking for it:

When I saw the Chroma thingy, I thought somewhat the same thing as Luke and Jacky...but realized that since there are only two color choices via highlight/boxed, and thus I only have a couple marked as such...so...
Maybe deriving the RGB value for tab stripe from a folder name hash could be an interesting concept! And then using the folder highlight/boxed color as override to it to futher mark that one is positioned there...

hmm... what you mean "only two color choices" ?? You can define the boxed/highlight color that will be used on a per-folder basis !!j_c_hallgren wrote:When I saw the Chroma thingy, I thought somewhat the same thing as Luke and Jacky...but realized that since there are only two color choices via highlight/boxed, and thus I only have a couple marked as such...so...
It's done either by right-clicking a folder, and then Mark/Set (Highlight/Box) Color ; or for the selected Tree item through menu Favorites/Set (Highlight/Box) Color
The Highlighted/Boxed colors on the Config are only the ones used by default!

So...how about enhancing the tooltips in config for those two by adding the word "Default"? That would clarify that there are other possibilities.
Addendum: The Help file 'index' does not have any entries for either "Boxed" or "Highlight" as related to this feature so it also could use a tweak...

And since the heading for "Interface Colors" gives the 'Right click to reset' info, which is very obvious, I'd rather have the tooltips for the various entries not say that also and save those redundant chars for a better description of what some entries are actually used for...
Jacky, I made an addendum to my prior post after your last post...I presume you agree to that also... no reply needed if so...

Mmm learnt a little more about some features here also.
Back on topic, I was talking about the background colour of the whole tab. I just noticed a thin 1 or two pixel orange line in the latest beta 40.00.16. Now you got me seeing things, was this just added?
I'm running 1680 x 1050 on a 15.4" laptop and can only just see this. While I'd prefer to see the complete tab coloured I'll compromise
on a strip if it could be a bit thicker.
