Crash when current folder is deleted externally

Post by peter.arrenbrecht »

When I have XYplorer positioned on a temp folder of one of my ANT builds and then run a clean ANT build, XYplorer either

- blocks the delete of the temp folder (so ANT fails), or
- crashes without a message (it just disappears).

I know this sounds like a stupid question, but what's an ANT when it's at home?
Used to update to the latest beta every day. Now I have children instead…

ANT is a Java build tool: http://ant.apache.org/

It probably also happens when you delete the current folder using the command prompt.

Well, the crash really shouldn't happen. Regarding the lock, are you sure it comes from XY? I don't think XY should lock a folder just because he's in it.
I mean I just tried to go to some folder in XY, then delete that folder either using Windows Explorer, or a command prompt, both times XY just change its current location to the parent folder, no lock & no crash.

I've gotten this by doing the following:

Focus a folder which contains a program with an uninstall.exe
Uninstall the program by clicking the uninstall.exe file.

The program then uninstalls itself and finishes by deleteing the folder.

As soon as that happens XY blinks out of existance.

Hm. Again I could not manage to reproduce this! Neither the lock nor the crash. :? What's that? A Win2K thing?

Sorry, but I don't happen to have anything easily available to try it out on my W2K...I'll see if I can find something unless you find bug in meantime...it would appear from above that it somehow relates to folder being deleted by a program and not directly by user...
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Yeah but, what exactly does "by user" means? when on DOS prompt or using Windows Explorer, it's still a program that does remove the folder.

I also just uninstalled a couple of softs, one of course didn't remove everything ( ) but the other did, and XY was on the folder, and just switch location to its parent...

I think it is a transient thingy. It doesn't happen every time I uninstall something. Just like my Run-time error '10', once in a blue moon. Would really like to figure it out but....

We see here that the difference between show and full load is almost nil! That's due to my solving the slow-drop-down mystery! 8)

Actually there's no point anymore in showing the app before it's fully loaded...

Good, I was getting tired typing it in all the time. :D

I have a friend who is using the last freeware version of XY. He keeps hemming and hawing that "I guess I should buy it".

I remind him of this by telling him how many updates/revisions there have been since that LFV. It is up to 185 as of 5.4.0016.

That would make a good banner:
185 updates since LFV and rising!
How long do you want to wait?
